Well , furniture arrived . Waiting for James and Vodafone for broadband . Probably last day with James . As I told him , with him
I fell on my feet and not my a@@e:)
I more or less know about the noise situation in my new flat .
Yes, you ( barely ) hear the kids or the tv upstairs . Kids runnning up and down the stairs at times . We've all done that .:)
It seems funny watching the heavy traffic on main road instead of being on the balcony .
Landlady won't be over on Tuesday , but next Thursday to go over inventory . Here's James
  • Welcome back AC :) I'm really glad to see you here. Good luck with getting everything in place today and don't forget to schedule a few days to rest and relax after everything you've done :)

Thanks for filling me in Irishjohn and for AC who clearly knows how to swallow his pride and return from a 'flounce'

I'm still baffled why this one story gets so much attention compared to the others (no offence OP), it must be the 'everyman' element.

I don't want to rain on the parade any more though when its nearly moving in day so my tuppence worth is get a scrap of paper, jot down the next 3 things you want to deal with, hopefully debt first, and then stuff it in a drawer for a week and just enjoy the flat and admiring all your new things :)

Glad you still posting for support AC. We have gorgeous weather here in Plymouth so I am sure Poole is just as lovely. Shame no balcony but hopefully you have some outside space to enjoy. Me I am off to our local swimming pool to enjoy some exercise and sun at the same time. Glad you have some furniture now and hopefully you will get your stuff out of storage too and life can get back to normal.

AC, who deals with the communal garden? You know, mowing the lawn etc.

Although you don't have a balcony, at least you do have somewhere outside that you can sit in. Also, washing can be dried out there on days like today, and you can't beat getting into a bed, freshly made with line dried sheets!

Well Warby I don't think it's that baffling really........., AC. Is not without a certain charm......:rotfl: and ........as you say ..........it is a story of "Everyman". About someone who had the courage to turn his life round. I think it's a story which resonates with a lot of people and which will inspire all those who read it.

I think ACs story could perhaps give hope and encouragement to those who are currently "standing on the precipice" as it were or who are facing enforced life changes.

On a personal level, like Irish John, I can relate to ACs story because I did something similar although for very different reasons. For both John and I it's been a case of "been there, got the tee shirt". .

I guess this is why I have been a bit "heavy" with AC at times because, having done it myself, I am only too aware of the pitfalls that have lain in wait along the way. Having undertaken the same life changing journey myself I have felt that at least some of my advice might have been of value.

I believe there are one or two others on this thread who have also taken the plunge, quitting their jobs, downsiIzing, taking early retirement etc, some by choice, some forced into making changes.

I like to think that, apart from the odd hiccup along the way, we have all supported and encouraged AC on what has been a remarkable transformation in his circumstances.

AC - you have come a long way.......but trust me ........the best is still to come. :D.

Yes you've had a wobble this week, buyers remorse and doubts are very common when you first move into a new a property, but they are usually fleeting emotions. It will soon feel like home and I doubt you will have any long term regrets.

Hello again. It's been a while, partly because I can't add to the money debate, but also because I have been whacked by my health, again.

I could hardly ignore Ask Wendy.

As AC and I know, autoimmune diseases arrive out of nowhere. They have nothing to do with stress, or weight, or diet, or lifestyle, or.....or.....

Once they are with you they go their own merry way, while you get the double whammy of the illness and the vile but essential Prednisolone.

He and I (and our consultants) also know that they can't be cured. All we can hope for is a remission. It doesn't help that so little is known about them. Mine was predicted to burn out after two years. It has now been with me for six and a half. In fact I have just counted and it's almost seven. As my 7 year old grandsons would say "poo and wee". If diet and exercise could replace steroids, we would all cheerfully dump them. So perhaps AC could have a break from the nagging about that.

But there is cheerful medical news today. Coffee and livers. Not a recipe, but research suggesting that coffee protects the liver! My liver has known that it's on its own for a while now, but I shall now treat it to an espresso.

So AC I prescribe a coffee and sea air. Have a good day.
  • Thanks again folks :)
Good points warby:) I think the reason why there are so many
well wishers is because the thread is not far off 2 years :)

Indeed autoimmune disease strikes at random.

My husband was Mr Fitness personified but alas it didn't help. Nothing could have helped him. He was simply handed a death sentence.

Maybe at some point in the future stem cell will be the answer but unfortunately its still some way off.

In the meantime, for those of you whose conditions aren't terminal and can be "managed", then all you can do is try to lead as healthy a lifestyle as Possible.. Sleep, rest, control stress, do your best to eat a healthy diet, and exercise when you can.

We did this with my husband and we managed to give him an extra year of mobility and quality of life. We couldnt reverse or halt the damage of course but by careful management we could slow things down a bit and buy him a bit more time.

I understand that prednisalone can be highly unpredictable both in its efficacy and in its side effects.

In my husbands case he was lucky in that he had no unpleasant side effects but then again, after some initial success, it wasn't effective either so treatment was stopped so as not to further compromise his immune system.

It's a tough one, yes the treatment can be rough but if it works then I guess you just have to weigh up the pros and cons.
