Went to the dentist today........now that does cost money. :rotfl:
Luckily most of it is covered by insurance. However, I will be starting a major scheme of works after my holiday which won’t be covered. Hey ho it has to be done, I have put it off for far too long as it is. Luckily I’m in no pain but I really need to grasp the nettle.

Good news.......I am going to be a grandmother next year. Wahoo. I was planning to go to Iceland in July but that’s when the baby is due so that trip will have to wait. In fact I don’t think I will book any big trips for next year.

I am aiming to put the house on the market and move onto my next project so what with that and “granny duties” I doubt I’ll have time for long voyages......

AC. I shall be interested to see how you get on with your session with a personal trainer. This is something I need to do too. I spoke to my Physio and she said if you tell them about your health issues, in my case my knee and back, in your case your muscle problems then they should tailor a regime to work round those issues and help you achieve your goals. There’s no point just doing any old exercise plan and making matters worse. I would have thought that a fully qualified PT should be ale to help you. Just don’t overreach yourself.

It has taken me several weeks to work up to but I can now walk for around 45 minutes without a leg brace and not end up with my knee hurting so,it’s definitely healing well and getting stronger. And I can walk faster now too. It just takes time and patience. Just take it steady and you’ll get there.

Did you ever see “Team America”. Well what we need is a montage!!! Like the one from “Rocky” :rotfl:

Speaking of films - went to see Paddington yesterday. Delightful, a perfect Christmas film. :D
  • Well you have options Mrs. P Plus you have the new year not far away . Let us know when you have any more thoughts :)

Congratulations LL - what lovely news!

We tried to see Paddington at the weekend but it was fully booked - unheard of in our small town - the cinema is very small though - it's like sitting in someone's front room and very often there are only a handful of people in there. Will try and go later in the week.

We have a 4 bedroomed house and it really is too big for us now - so we can easily downsize. We are looking for a bungalow for maintenance purposes.

Real problem is we don't know where we want to live. We were thinking of Scotland a few years back but with the uncertainly of another referendum we have changed our minds. We have always liked Yorkshire and are visiting there in August to see if we would like to live there.

So at the moment our real question is where do we want to live?

Whilst oop north, might I suggest you look at County Durham and Teeside as well, you may find similar areas and cheaper properties...

    Agree......

You posted at 6.40 so presumably your husband had not long been home from work, was tired and maybe “still in work mode”, maybe stressed from the days events.

A wise old aunt once gave me a very valuable piece of advice.......sounds hideously old fashioned like one of those 1950s housewife guides:rotfl: But there is a grain of truth in it.

It was “never try to have an important conversation with a man who is tired and hungry”. In other words when he comes home from work let him chill, have something to eat etc.

Of course it works both ways, it could just as easily be when the woman comes home too. And by extension the kids.......you can’t talk to hungry frazzled kids.

AC is right ...........Wait for a more opportune moment, when you both relaxed and have a bit more time to talk properly.

Thanks all and you are so right. I just knew I was to say it but said it anyway!

It will take time I have been chipping away for a few months. He is terribly afraid of us giving up our jobs and having no income and I can appreciate that - it is really scary.

I think if we find an area we would like to move to he would feel more inclined to take the plunge.

  • Exciting news on this thread.

Congrats LL on your future grandchild. Is this your first? We have one little granddaughter who is just over 2 and a little poppet so we have lots of grandparent duties as my daughter and son in law live in the same town as us. Our second grandchild is due early May next year and we find out whether boy or girl next month.

Exciting news from Mrs P too if she can persuade her OH. Big step but if you do the sums this may reassure him. We live in Cornwall and OH retired last year age 58 and I retire next month and am 57. You can find various ways to finance early retirement which I guess is what you will be doing. Luckily you can draw on pensions at 55 so not sure if either you or Mr P have any. Pull all the details together. Do the sums on downsizing and as LL says your outgoings can decrease drastically when you are not working especially with no mortgage. Maybe post on the pension planning forum? I vote for staying in Cornwall as we love it down here but you will get more for your money elsewhere.

  • Well, you can drive . You’re familiar with Yorkshire a little bit .
Plus you can downsize . It seems that you have a fair amount of time still to make the right decision. You have Christmas to come and a break to reassess things . Maybe by Easter you will have more of an idea if you want to put your plan into action . Hopefully you both don’t despise the places you work and can do things gradually and everything will fall into place eventually. This potential move sounds intriguing Mrs. P :)
