I made it back here. :)

What a shame your Mum and sister aren't financially responsible. It must put a strain on all of you. It sounds as though you have an ally in your older brother though.

You are doing amazingly with reducing the debt! Getting under 3K is a real achievement! Doubly good to see your CC habits for what they are and change what you do. :) It will be gone in next to no time.

Last but not least: I'm so pleased you've got the funding for your course! My son is waiting for his (he did a year of one course, left to do a foundation year for something else and now, having done the foundation year and first year of his degree, is still waiting for some of his loan! He loves his Uni work now. I bet you're really looking forward to getting started.

    Hi Cherryfudge!
Yes I'm super estatic that my funding got approved, it was such a nightmare time getting it sorted though so I hope everything goes well with your son's situation.
I am indeed looking very much forward to getting started on the course. It starts in two weeks time and the uni are taking all the English and Creative writing students to the London Library for a day during freshers week! I'm really excited for that :D
My mum is still continuing to pay off £35 a week to my Very account, and gave me £10 last week towards what she owes me. So just another £340 to go....
I also havent received anymore money for my car from my sister, so it looks like I am stuck with just the £200 that she initially gave me. Sigh. It's such a mess.

    Best wishes :D

Glad the money is coming in from your Mum, at any rate!

Freshers with a visit to London Library will be well worth doing. Lucky you! Hope you have a great time. :)

  • Quick update -
Student Finance came in at the start of the week. I paid £290 off my Lloyd's CC in one chunk and have £290 left on there now too haha
I got paid for two work training days that earned me £82.50 that came in today
So far I've got £145 in my debt over payment pot. Once it reaches £290 my Lloyd's CC will be a big fat zero :D

So far since my LBM on 27/3/2017 I've paid off £889, just over 25% :T

  • Wow it's been over a month since I've last checked in! Time has just flown this month, I can't believe it's nearly Halloween already.
Anyway, nothing much to update on as everything is still basically the same: still at uni and still working part time in the union shop. My credit score has shot up since I've paid of a big chunk of debt and because my mum's been paying off large amounts on my Very account, so that's fantastic :T

I have been thinking long term recently, and I'm looking at doing distance learning at level 2 and 3 in bookkeeping in the near future, (mid next year or maybe early 2019, depending on how intense my studies and coursework get). Studying Enlish Lit is great and I enjoy it but I'm aware I'm not gaining a vocational skill in particular. There's not really any careers, like teaching or journalism, that most English grads go for that I want to do. After I graduate, I will inevitably be back at my mum's house immediately after, and I'm dreading having to work temporaraily in a shop or something mind-numbing again until I can hopefully find a proper, graduate level job (if that ever happens at all :( ) so I plan on learning bookkeeping part time along side my uni studies, so I will have graduated and have a skill under my belt, and hopefully get a job in bookkeeping or credit control - which I want to work in! :D

The distance learning is gonna cost me £300 up front and then £150 for my first two exams, and then a further £237 for the last three. So... it's quite a lot of money. It's times like these where I really kick myself for getting into debt over worthless things, all the monthly repayments on my CC's could go towards paying for these so easily

£290 in one go is huge - well done!

I think the book keeping sounds very constructive. Perhaps you could set aside a small amount that would otherwise go to debt repayment (say 2% or 5%) to start saving towards that? It won't slow the debt repayment very much but it will help you to know you have made a start towards the qualifications.

You sound much happier with your new course and while it's not vocational, you will be learning plenty of transferrable skills. (My degree qualifies me for absolutely nothing but it's given me a huge amount of 'extras' that have been a great help).

ETA: ...and it was fun :)

That's so true, I am loving university and I have gained a hell of a lot of confidence being here already :D
Also, yeah I'm going to split my earnings between saving for the course and debt repaying. I'm hoping to have my Lloyd's CC at zero come January (or maybe before! :D )
    Best wishes

  • I've done a balance transfer this month for one of my credit cards, as its 0% offer was coming close to the end. It's now renewed until June 2019, but at the cost of £65.63 fee :(
That's more than one months DD payment :undecided
Ah well, it's cheaper than letting it run through after the 0% stops I suppose. But it's set me back in my payment progress

    £65.63

That wasn't in the plan. :(

Still, as you say, it should be a long term saving. How are things in the rest of your life?

Hi CherryFudge, sorry for the very late reply, but thank you kindly for asking :rotfl:
I'm doing good, my course is going rather well and I'm enjoying it. I'm looking forward to eventually living in my own house, as sharing with other people is really getting on my nerves now. But that won't be until 2019 at the earliest :( also I've had to give up my part time job this past month as I was finding it very difficult to juggle its sporadic and unexpected hours (due to a new computerised system that they started using ) and finding study time with also trying to learn a new language that I want to do. Leaving it was a hard choice that I didn't take lightly but at the end of the day, I decided to put my mental health first as I was becoming an anxious and nervous wreck again :( I'm doing a lot better now though, and wishing you a very happy new year!!
