Had PPI on Tesco credit card even though was self employed

I have a Tesco credit card. When it was due for a renewal in the early 2000s, they switched me from Visa to Mastercard as I queried it because I didn't want to swap. They said it was a reward for loyalty and I couldn't change back.
When the PPI scandal came up, I realised I had it even though I never requested it. There was no paperwork with my signature agreeing to it as I had the original application. I went to Tesco's who took their time deliberating. During this time I remembered they'd switch me to Mastercard. I wrote back to them and said this was when they must have added PPI. They paid up straight away.
So, they added it to my card without my agreement. Nothing was ever sold and nothing was every signed by myself.0 -
Well thankfully my partner did not listen to the people who told me/us that the Cardholder protection plan was not PPI. She wrote to Tesco and they have confirmed it was PPI and a claim is now underway.
At that time Tesco called their PPI CPP. So if you have that on your early Tesco bills then you were paying for PPI.
These forums are a good way of getting advice but sometimes some people do think they know everything.
But a big thanks to Placida as your reply made me do more research.0 -
Thanks for updating us.
It'll be interesting to hear how your "claim" goes...0 -
Just back from holiday and yes Tesco have upheld the complaint. So again if back in 2000 you had cardholder protection plan on your statements then you had PPI and Tesco acknowledge this.
So now we just have to sign that we agree the amount and a cheque will be sent.0
