Had PPI on Tesco credit card even though was self employed

Whilst going through all my paperwork looking for bank statements I realised my partner had a Tesco credit card with PPI on it. She had this from February 2000 till February 2004.
She never really had a balance as she used to pay virtually all the balance at the end of each month. But as she was self employed at that time would PPI have been any use? She never got a PAYE job till 2009
Over the 4 years she paid a total of £220. Would she have a claim and if so what sort of figure should she be expecting?
Thanks

PPI didn't routinely exclude the self employed. That's a claims company myth.0

OK, thanks for the reply. So I need to ask them firstly if it covered her being self employed and a copy of the agreement. She only took the card for Tesco clubcard points. So as I said earlier the card was cleared virtually to the penny every month. So why would she need protection to pay off nothing?
She seems to remember having to call to activate the card. Could the operator just of added it to meet there targets? It seems quite stupid of my partner to pay to protect a near zero balance. I don't think in any of her statements she paid more than a £1 in interest0 -

You would need to ask her that. I willingly bought PPI in the 90s even though I also routinely paid the balance of every month, because I was excessively cautious with very little in the way of savings.
But your wife may have had different reasons.0 -
PPI is only charged on any outstanding balance and itemised separately on each monthly bill. A zero balance would not incur any charges.
Is that interest or ppi charges, or both?she paid a total of £220
IF any complaint you make was upheld, she would receive the ppi paid+8% simple interest. She may have to pay 20% tax on the interest.0 -
I just checked and we had over 25K of savings as well. So there was no reason for it at all. She had 3 other cards and none of them had any payment protection. As I said it was purely to boost the points as you got double0

They have definitely been charging no matter what. Her very first statement was sent with balance of £394.45 and the charge was £2.74. She paid the balance over 2 weeks early and paid £500 so over paid yet the next month another charge.
But it is called cardholder protection plan. Is this still PPI?0 -
I have been checking online and some people are saying that the Cpp is in case the card got stolen. But if that was the case then why would the amount change according to the balance? Surely if you had less credit then a thief could spend less. So why would you need to pay more?
Also I have also found she paid Tesco £16 for the year for its Sentinel protection to safe guard all of her cards against loss or theft. So she was fully covered against loss of any card0 -
Really?Just "some" people?a1carparts wrote: »I have been checking online and some people are saying that the Cpp is in case the card got stolen.
That's what CPP covered period.
The CPP refund scheme closed almost two years ago, so too the Sentinel.
Neither are/were PPI.0 -
It's not PPI, sorry.0

So how can Tesco charge us for both on same card? As they charged a 1 off payment each year plus each month another charge for what you are saying is the same cover. You legally cant have 2 insurance covers on a car covering the same thing so how can Tesco charge for 2 insurances0
