I work with computers for a living in an environment where security is a big issue. Windows 10 is way better than Windows 7. As for Linux being unusable as an OS, words fail me. Many of the worlds servers run on it, our casino systems run on it, hell even some of the change machines we build run on it.
Sure, Windows 10 has some improvements over Windows 7, but have you read the EULA? From a security standpoint, Windows 10 is a non-starter.
Linux is fabulous as a server, but not as an OS for the average user. If Linux was any good as a mainstream OS, everyone would use it because it's free, and they'd probably pay good money for a deluxe version. Nobody but coders and programmers use Linux. It's great success at the server end but a total failure at the user end.0 -
It's best not to post in forums until you've sobered up....

Do you know who Bill Gates is and what his current role in Microsoft is? I fear not, which makes me wonder about the validity and sanity of your claims. It's not really a secret, any more than the secret that Linux doesn't work as a consumer OS. If you go to YouTube, you'll find several "black hat" videos about the security issues peculiar to Windows 10, but the major exploit is the in-your-face EULA that basically says "tick this box to sell your soul to Bill Gates". All Window OS's since Windows 95 have been produced in cooperation with the CIA, Windows 10 is just the "on steroids" version that lets them legally invade your computer.
Also, you might want to see if your CPU is infected with a built-in backdoor mini-os. It's the future of Intel and AMD.
Bill Gates - WikipediaGates stepped down as chief executive officer of Microsoft in January 2000. He remained as chairman and created the position of chief software architect for himself. In June 2006, Gates announced that he would be transitioning from full-time work at Microsoft to part-time work, and full-time work at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. He gradually transferred his duties to Ray Ozzie and Craig Mundie. He stepped down as chairman of Microsoft in February 2014, taking on a new post as technology adviser to support the then newly appointed CEO Satya Nadella.0 -

To have any rational discussion on the use (or not) of W10 maybe the threads need to be seperated between, normal everyday home users and those that use them in a more advanced way.
What IT people do and need in a work environment, with many PC's to look after etc, is of little relevance to the average home user. Scaremongering disguised as 'I know all about the workings' is of very little help to most and ends up in a willy waving war about who knows the most obscure setting etc.;)
Not really sure why the Linux crowd have the need to invade every W10 thread.......Seems they feel lonely and in need of some sort of validation, it certainly doesn't help anyone...:)
As for the doommongers aaaaaagghhhh!

I started with PC's as windows 95 was launched, I got fed up of buying stuff for my Commodore Amiga and the sellers telling me it wont work.
Of course it will work its just a case of me having to buy a £90 item instead of the much cheaper options. So i turned to the dark side.
Maybe its my age and knowing what windows updates have done over the years? But a forced update is never a good thing in my eyes. Let others test the updates first. All too often the update fixes one issue and creates 3 more. For those that fix PCs for a living or as a hobby have you ever had to sort a computer due to an update bug of some sort?
Double edged sword for some users though. Leave the updates and tell them to run them manually which they often don't or leave the updates on auto. Unless they are into computers to some degree auto is the option. Shame you cannot set a delay on the updates.
Back to my age again though. I personally hate the tiled menu. I never use cortana. I dont want a search on my taskbar, i dont want pinned icons either.
I always retro add the quick launch to the toolbar.
Its the way they take something useful and spoil it. Take nightlight. A simplified version of F.Lux it said. Seems to be is they have taken F.Lux and removed the options for you to set what time its active. You want it to come on at 8pm instead of 7pm . TOUGH...
I know its a silly idea but why not let users decide what settings they want to use? Have the generic install settings. But if i want a windows 98 start menu on my windows 10 install why cant i simply select that? Why do i need to install further addons which the updates try to remove?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
I didn't say I was ignoring any articles.....Just commenting on your hysterical over hype of every situation concerning MS....Oh yes..and now Intel...Well, the article and dozens other like it are right, and you are wrong. You can ignore it if you like, but that doesn't make it untrue.
As for any article on the subject, they are too full of ifs and buts and theories. As I've always said, if you don't want to avail of the service then you don't have to. No one is forcing you or trying to entrap you, you have choices. While you are at it, ditch your mobile, your bank cards, your store cards and your car, remove your landline and your satellite/cable TV, relinquish all subscriptions and never get on public transport or walk in a city centre.
The ship has sailed on total privacy.......Long ago. All you have now is the choice between curtains open and curtains closed....;)
Now then.........Windows 10 Creators.....:cool:Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

When Windows 10 first came out I was suspicious of MS's motives in providing free upgrades from Win 7 and especially concerned about privacy issues. I have to say that since then I have changed my view, somewhat.
Windows 10 has been for me a trouble-free experience and by far the most superior o/s that I have used since the beginning of the home computer age.
I have found that it is possible to modify the o/s in such a way that the features are all acceptable to me. I don't use the standard interface or Edge or Cortana or anything like that. I make sure the privacy settings are all that I want them to be.
So far as privacy is concerned I have come to the conclusion that what the big corporations want to know about me is what products I buy. This is the consumer age. I am primarily a consumer. They want to know what I buy so they can sell me stuff. I have managed to fight off their attention by using ad-blockers and all the usual suspects, so I am not harassed by adverts and emails when I am online.
Of course, if you happen to be a "high-value target" engaged in illicit activities then you just might attract the attention of the "authorities": but then that is the way it has always been. Most of us just live quiet lives.
I have found that it is possible to "manage" Windows 10, so that it does what I want it to do and not the other way around. I just hope this new update does not give me cause to change my mind.0
