Undeclared Banned Named Driver

Hi All,
I am looking for some advice as I have failed to declare that a named driver on my policy has been banned. I took out the car insurance in 2013 with Hastings Direct, and as a young driver I put both of my parents on the policy, hoping it would make it cheaper. I kept renewing the insurance ever since and forgot that I had any named drivers on it.
My mother was banned for drink driving last year and I didn't know that there was any need to inform my insurance.
Shortly after she was banned my car was stolen and I made a claim. Hastings phoned me to tell me that everything was fine with the claim and that they just need to check the named drivers' licences. This was a surprise to me. They have checked the named drivers and found that my mother has been banned and I am now waiting for news from them.
I did mention to them that I didn't know I had any named drivers on the policy but that didn't seem to help. Should I try saying that I didn't know she was banned? I wasn't living with her at the time.
I would be devastated if I don't get any money back for the car as I spent my life savings on it :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Any help is much appreciated!

Thanks for the reply. I have told the truth so far but it seems like a very good reason for them not to pay out. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with something similar and would know what to expect. Would this mean that my insurance would be completely void? Or would I get a reduced amount for the claim perhaps?
And yes they did send renewal notices but I have only recently found them all in my emails. Never realised how important they were until now0 -
What date was the ban and what date was your last renewal?0

So presumably if you hadn't been found out now you'd have continued to lie every time your insurance was renewed? I find it incredibly hard to believe that you "forgot" that a banned driver was named on the policy, and that this was done to save you money? The correct term for this is Insurance Fraud. It's likely your insurance will be cancelled and your claim dismissed/denied. Furthermore you could face an allegation or charge of insurance fraud.
if your insurance is cancelled you will have to declare this every time you seek any kind of insurance in the future - health insurance, travel insurance, home insurance, phone/gadget insurance etc and will find insurance very difficult and expensive to buy.
I'm not sure from the tone of your post if you quite appreciate how serious the situation is. Lying to your insurer is a massive "no no" and you have found this out the hard way. Having spent your life savings on a car you were prepared to lie to save a few pounds on your car insurance and this has come back and bitten you on the bum big time. Lies on top of more lies would be foolish beyond words and will simply compound the pain and trouble you're in. Man up and face the consequences of your foolish actions.0 -

What an unpleasant and judgemental post, full of schadenfreude!
I see no evidence so far at least that the OP lied, as opposed to being guilty of inadvertent failure to disclose or notify. To accuse the OP of fraud is uncalled for.
If the OP would come back and answer rs65's question about the dates it would help, but at the moment we don't even know for sure whether even a single renewal went past since their mother was caught drink driving. The failure to mention this appears to have been totally immaterial to the theft of the car and if the drink driving had been disclosed the main impact would simply have been that the mother would have been removed as a named driver, albeit that there might also have been a premium adjustment. There's no reason to suppose that the insurer wouldn't have remained on risk at the time of the theft.0 -
Using your parents details to obtain cheaper car insurance is 100% illegal its called "fronting" , regardless of the fact your mum was prosecuted for drink driving or if you failed to notify them in time you have still broken the law and now admitted to it on a pubic forum , that's not unpleasant or judgemental its a fact0

Sorry, that is just utter nonsense. It is NOT fronting if you correctly disclose who is the main driver.
Perhaps you haven't read the MSE guide to cheaper car insurance for young drivers. Have a look at tip no.2.

You might want to actually check your "facts" are correct before going off on one pretending you know what you are on about.0 -

Or and for that matter or or...:)I am just thinking out loud - nothing I say should be relied upon!
I do however reserve the right to be correct by accident.0
