My little un is nearly 8, and i have NEVER bought a school photo... I think theyre horrible... You can tell they're rushed, and theyre really unimaginative pics... Ive got nicer ones of him that ive just taken round the house. So dont feel pressured or forced to buy it. If theyre nice, get em, if not, dont bother!!!
You lied to me Edward. There IS a Swansea. And other places.....

  • I hated my school photo in the last year of high school. It was awful, i had my eyes shut and it looked like i was singing!

My parents bought it even though i said not to and to this day its shoved in a box in a cupboard because I would NEVER EVER let them put it up.

I would say save your money especially if like mine it's never gonna see the light of day again!

I used to buy my DD's school photo when she was at her first school, but they had whole class photos and it's a nice souvenir for her.

I stopped buying her photos when she reached middle school, because then I had very little money and I had to prioritise. They are horrendously pricey anyway as they are often in packs.

DD doesn't think I'm a bad mother for not buying her photos. I don't think I am either. It's just a con to -again-make parents spend money (and make them feel bad if they don't!)

The thing with school photos is that if anything should happen and a child goes missing, the police like to use these school photos as identity. Obvioulsy though with digital cameras you can also do portrait style photos so maybe you can create your own like others have said, but it is nice to have school photos for each year as they grow, even if to show future husbands and children :D

I always thought school photos were a rip off.
Hubby and I both worked in photography years ago and know that it costs pennies to produce the photos.Photographers buy their film in bulk and get massive trade discounts on processing and printing. Now with digital photography, the photographer doesnt even have to pay for the film used.
Unless nobody in the family can take a good picture, they are really not worth it.

I have had some photos that I haven't particularly liked (my DS has a sadistic streak and gains great pleasure in not smiling for the photographer, lol!) but I bought them anyway, and now years later I'm quite fond of them.

There was one I didn't buy as I hated it, really hated it. I felt awful not buying it at the time, but I don't regret not buying it now. School photos are such a lot of money, but are nice to have usually.

  • Thanks for the replies everybody. It has reminded me that I did take some photos of her in her school uniform before she went off to school so I think I will stick with them. I forgot they are still on my camera . It is a pity that it is such a bad photo of her ( think of that advert with the bald guy pushing strands of hair over his forehead and you would be close to how she looks :rotfl: bless ) but hopefully next years will be better and I will maybe get that one.

I'm a really bad mother - I bought all my sons photos at Infants and Juniors but have never bought a single one of my daughters - just too dreadful to have in the house!:o

They are sooooo expensive now that if they aren't good enough, don't buy them.

I have yet to see my dd's photos from school this year but I remember last year getting my sons last one and the proof was awful!!!! It was so distorted I thought it was shlurf from Goonies :rotfl: I was busy moaning about the quality etc... when someone told me they morph them to stop people creating the own at home using photoshop- its easy to enlarge, take out the word proof etc... but almost impossible to unmorph it. its a means to ensure parents pay for them.
