I've just been reading your diary, I'm also a single mum - a few days away from being one year on my own - and am trying hard to get the mortgage down. Also have the task of taking ex off the mortgage and deeds as well as sorting equity. Your last few posts really resonated with me, I haven't lost my mum, but she was the next best thing. It's been almost 7 years and sometimes the pain still takes my breath away. Unfortunately the impending anniversary of me finding out about my husbands affair is also the anniversary of my Nan's death, so this year is going to be especially hard.

It is true that time is a healer, but that's only because it puts time between you and the initial moment of pain and you start to breathe again. All you can do is keep plodding on. If you can pay off an extra bit of the mortgage then fantastic, but if not because your head and heart aren't in it then that's ok too, your regular payment is still chipping away at the balance :)

Good luck on the rest of your journey x

Dear Cat and shopaholic, thank you so much for stopping by and taking the time to post, your kind words mean a lot :) I have read both your diaries and will carry on following your updates as we all have quite a bit in common xx

Well, another mortgage payment has been taken out and so has another overpayment of £50. I'm so frustrated that I can't up this amount at the moment, but once Christmas is out of the way and we are in to the New Year I can reassess and hopefully find some spare pennies. I'm now into the 50's.....and after my next mortgage payment/overpayment in December, will be so tantalizingly close to being under 50k left....am tempted to use some of my savings to get it under 50k, but know that this is perhaps not the best move as I would need to use around £600...will ponder this some more over the next few weeks...

Still working all the hours at both my jobs, and even though they are both so different, I am enjoying them both quite a lot. Hopefully there may be some extra shifts over the Xmas period so I can put some spare cash to an overpayment, you never know.

Anyway, must get back to work, no rest for the wicked! One day I will win the lottery.....!

    Take care all,

    CS x

Well, another pay day has been and gone and so has another overpayment of £50....feel so rubbish saying that, wish it was a larger amount, but it is what it is for now....am hoping to increase the regular overpayment amount in the new year...just need to tweak my finances a little, but should be ok.

Soooo close to being under £50k!! but cannot justify using some of my savings to get it under that....need to carry on saving my emergency fund too...have had boiler and gas fire issues this last month, and am so grateful that I had an emergency fund and was able to pay the bills without worrying where the money was coming from.

Am working lots of extra shifts in my 2nd job over Xmas, so should have extra pennies to put towards overpayments.

Am looking forward to a new year, this will be the year that I can really get my teeth into overpaying and making a dent in the amount outstanding...fingers crossed!

Give your family members a big hug during this special time of year and be grateful for everything. Life is a gift.

Have a great Christmas to all those that are celebrating and a happy new year to you all. :santa2::xmassmile

    Take care everyone,

Another month and another pay day has been and gone and so has another mortgage over-payment. The amount outstanding is now under £50k, which is fantastic, but I would rather it be lower than that..!

I've increased the mortgage over-payment amount that automatically gets taken out of my bank to £150 per month...that's all I can increase it to for now, but have a plan formulating that will enable me to hopefully increase this significantly next year...

So, still plodding onwards (and downwards!), and gradually going in the right direction. That's all I can ask for I guess.

    Take care,

Another mortgage payment has left my account, and so has another overpayment of £150...
Nothing else to report, still plodding onwards and downwards, but getting so frustrated at how slowly my outstanding mortgage debt seems to be going down....hoping it speeds up soon  :(

Been a few weeks since I've posted. Not really felt in the mood for posting, a mixture of having nothing to say and worrying about the future and about what is currently going on in the world...it's all been a bit much.

I've been let go from my temping job this week too...but am lucky that I still have my second job - albeit part time and only a few hours a week, it is better than no job at all. Will start to look for another temping job or permanent employment in a couple of weeks, not really sure there is much point at the moment.

Anyway, was just wanting to report (better late than never) an overpayment of £150 in March....these obviously are now going to have to stop for a while, until I get back on my feet (again).  I've also contacted the mortgage company and have obtained a mortgage holiday for 3 months, which, although not what I wanted to do, is a must at the moment.

I hope everyone is ok. Stay safe in these troubling times.

    Take care,

    CS x

It's strange times that we're currently living in - I think the main point at the moment is getting through it - and then dealing with the resulting aftermath at that point (although trying to be aware of things in the meantime!)

Can your temping place not put you on furlough instead? Am sure there's wording akin to 'if you have no work they can do due to Covid-19' in the gov.uk guidelines (that's the clause I'm quoting to try and get my invigilation job furloughed, as obviously tehre are no exams to invigilate this Summer!!)

    Stay safe xx

My mortgage payment holiday is over...so my mortgage payments have restarted, another mortgage payment has been taken and so has another overpayment of £150.
Nothing much else to report - I was put on furlough through my temping agency, but that is coming to an end in August, so will need to find another temping job (or a permanent one) which is a little worrying as I've had a look, and understandably there is not much out there at the moment. I've still got my other part-time job as a key worker, which I'm very grateful for, and have been doing loads of extra shifts to gain extra pennies, so all I've really been doing for the last few months is working, working, working. I realise that I'm one of the lucky ones and count my blessings that I have this job to fall back on.
Will update again next month, and hopefully I will have more to say!
    Take care,
