Well of course. Contributing the same won't get the same however, given public sector pensions are on a fundamentally different basis to modern private sector ones since the collapse of private sector DB.0 -
My FS pension has a £18 million black hole in it .............Fire service 2/3s final salary after 30 years ..............Thats why they threw a wobble when they changed it saying How do they expect us to climb ladders etc at 55 etc ...............why are they different to people working in a heavy manual job in the private sector? Too good too long.................end of0

Like I said, it closed to new members in 2006, and at the same time, ill health rules were tightened up quite a bit. (The 2015 changes were really small beer in comparison.)why are they different to people working in a heavy manual job in the private sector? Too good too long.................end of

And what about people in the steel making industry subjected to it day in day out. What really pi55es me off with some of the attitude of people in the public sector they think they are a better class of person and deserve the pensions and then throw a right wobble when questioned on its fairness. We all chose our own direction in life that doesnt mean we should be punished for doing so all we ask is to treated fairly0 -

Anyone has free choice to work wherever they can get a job. You are perfectly free to get a job in the public sector if you think it's so wonderful. You talk as though the public sector is some special club that you have to be invited to work in rather than just applying for a job like anywhere else.
We "deserve" the pensions because we applied for jobs that contained those pensions as part of the total reward package. If the pension scheme I was in was significantly worsened then I would move into the private sector unless the salary was increased to compensate.
"Deserve" do me a favour we had a FS scheme yet had no say in it stopping what did we do to deserve that put upon us..............nothing and you lot throw your toys out the pram and threaten strikes when they suddenly woke up to what a complete pi55 take the public sector pension system is0 -
