How to pay for ebay purchase?

Options
Forgive me for sounding like a luddite on this post. I have placed a bid on ebay and should I be successfull I don't know how to proceed with my payment to the seller. Can I use my debit card just as I do with my usual online buys or would I have to register with PayPal or other method?. This is my first ebay bid also is it as secure as using your card on other sites?.

If you look again at the listing the seller will say what payment type they accept. These days its usually Paypal and nothing else.
If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.

You would usually be able to pay the seller's Paypal account using your debit card - not every buyer has a Paypal account but most seller's will. Just make sure it doesn't try to go through as a Gift payment as these don't offer buyer protection.

What does the listing say regarding payment methods?

set up a paypal account with your card, offers you some protection for faulty items received , also lots of retailers let you pay with paypal, no fees for buying through paypal. better than giving everyone your card details ,

I had similar fears when I first used ebay.
if you look at the problem from the sellers point-of-view, Who are you? Can you pay?
I suggest you sign-up with paypal and verify your account soonest.
Paypal have protected me from two dodgy traders so-far.

One thing that I did was to set up a completely separate bank account for PayPal.
I keep just enough in there to cover my usual purchases.
    Move along, nothing to see.

I have set a paypal account up as it sounds more secure than just handing your card details over. If my bid is accepted do I just hit the pay button on ebay or will I have to log into my paypal acount before my ebay account?.

You hit Pay Now(if you win), then a separate screen comes up you tick Paypal. Another screen opens and you sign into Paypay and hit pay.

Thanks for the advice. I am aware that if my bid is accepted I have seven days to pay the seller.
