  • Hello. I am new to the site and about to enter into a DMP .

If I get overtime, which is never guaranteed so cannot form part of the plan, am I able to pay that to one of the creditors or is that considered favouring the creditor. He is actually someone who loaned me money to help bail me out of my debt initially.

Similarly, would it be bad if I paid it to someone else who is not part of the DMP, a family member who I also owe money to.

    Many thanks

    Hi everyone,

SC wrote to me to tell me that one of my creditors has rejected my suggested payment. Funnily enough the same creditor called me today pretending that they had no record from SC of my payment plan.

SC have said that payments will continue as is, and not to panic that the creditor will continue on with their process and hand the debt to another party. Does this mean the bailiffs will turn up at the door?

I wrote to SC today asking why two of my creditors were still contacting me. Based on creditor one, looks like creditor two will follow the same route.

I'm annoyed about it, and I'm also annoyed at SC as I wrote to them over a week ago for advice and they still haven't replied back. I can't call during their business hours as I'm doing my commute to and from work and I can't call at lunchtime as there is nowhere private to call from.

Looks like I'll have to blag a sickie next week to call them.

    Any advice on the above?

    Thanks all xx

A DMP is an informal arrangement.

So Any extra money you get, from whatever source, you are free to do with as you please.

Good grief no, of course it doesnt mean that.

Please, please do some research on the debt collection process.

The creditors have various internal departments for dealing with bad debts, they are :

Collections, who manage short term financial troubles,
    &
Recoveries, who manage long term problems.

If you cant come to an arrangement with them, the debt is passed to a 3rd party collector.

For a bailiff to be engaged, the creditor would have to take you to court, you would have to lose, have a county court judgement awarded against you, then fail to make any payment to it.

That is a long way off.

All it means is the debt will be passed to recoveries, who may accept the offer or may not, if not, it may then be assigned to a debt collector, who will be glad to take your money.

You do not need to do anything, wait and see what course of action is taken.

  • Hello all. Just wondered how you send updated income and offers info when you have some debts that you are not actually paying the real.amount to. I have three out of seven presently unenforceable. I'm just paying a token to them at present. Would you just write to the others and if so would I just put the amount offered to them or am I expected to list debts and everyones offers like stepchange used to. ? Just wondering what is the best way
    Thanks all

Thanks so much for this. BusinessDebt Helpline imply that it should be paid into the DMP and split over the creditors.

So paying extra to one creditor would not put my DMP at risk of being cancelled or anything? I was afraid that at some point my bank statements could be requested and if I had paid extra to one of the creditors in the DMP I'd be in trouble.

I am new and my Dmp is due to start beginning Sept the balance is £14000 and it’s over next, very, capital one, Barclays ee and a few other ones that have been taken over by companies. I have gone with stepchange and I’m petrified of bailiffs.
I have a very low credit score and EE have already defaulted. I’m happy I did what stepchanged suggested and moved to a basic bank account so I no longer run my account in minus
Its the first time I’ve ever been able to not pay minimum payments
    Any advice would be appreciated
  • Update from Wescot - email received apologising for calling and that they will remove my numbers from their records :D

They have accepted my offer of repayment so that just leaves Link and Lowell to respond now. Plus Nationwide who we have told we are not paying as their debt is unenforceable and we are prioritising enforceable debts :)

Thank you all for your continued advice and support - would be lost without this thread :)

    Don't worry about bailiffs because:
