How long does it usually take for creditors to take notice of the initial letter you send them? I wrote to everyone at the start of this week, explaining my circumstances, asking for a hold for 30 days while I get my DMP in place with SC, and asking them to only contact me in writing. I'm still getting calls and texts this morning. I didn't expect it to be instant as I guess it takes a while for the wheels to get in motion and the departments to catch up with one another, but now I'm worried I sent the letters to the wrong addresses or something.

It will gradually filter down to who needs to know, don`t worry.

Best advice is to block numbers, or if you choose to answer, just tell them your seeking advice from stepchange, and to contact you in writing only from now on, you will be surprised how charming call handlers are taught to be these days.

Thanks! I would be in such a panic without this thread. :)

I'm thinking of using the secure online messaging for those cards which have it, just to reinforce the message and hopefully speed things up.

I agree with all you've said, Suseka:T. I was never asked for documentary proof by SC at review stage either:j but the poster mentions being with Payplan so maybe they do things differently:think:

Aha. Well that explains it then... I need to stop skim reading posts :D

Had 2 replies from initial letters to my 5 creditors:
Barclaycard - very nice/sympathetic message freezing account for 30 days.
Shawbrook Loan - 25 minute phone call with a complete and utter dragon who told me that my creditors will be coming after my house. I'm pretty sure that won't be happening so I kept nice and calm and didn't argue with her. It's not her money and she was just doing her job - maybe she's on commission for bad debt collection....

I'd have given her a mouthful myself... but good for you for keeping calm. You won't lose your house, no. I know they asked you to call, but from now on just deal with them in writing. Good to hear things are moving along and things should settle down for you soon :)

Just opened up a savings account with Nationwide for my Emergency Fund/F & F's. I had already opened up a basic bank account with them, although it's actually a credit-checked Flexi-Plus account as my Credit File hasn't yet gone down the toilet.....no overdraft though.....

Wonder if anyone can help? I’m currently in the process of setting up my DMP with stepchange and in conversations with them. I‘ve asked if I can save £135 for emergencies (or further debt pay off) but they have emailed me saying that this is too high and to provide a comment as the creditors may not except this?
    Is this an unreasonable amount?

I will be looking at repaying £160 PCM off my debts however my biggest concern is that I have Zero savings and have no contingency if something breaks/emergency at home etc. My contingency was credit in the past. Can anyone please advise?

When I asked Stepchange if I could delay the start of my DMP for about 5 months to build up an EF they just said that it was fine but I would have to deal with my creditors until I was ready to begin the plan. In the meantime they are happy for me to use their name and my SC ref number. If I have any problems or queries I can call them so although I am kind of on my own at the moment, SC are there if I need them.
