Sorry to be a pain, I am a worrier! I have MBNA telling me that they will not stop interest or charges until they have received their payment from SC. As I wanted to wait until September to start SC payments to build up the EF, this is obviously adding to the debt. Has anyone encountered this?

Also, we had Nationwide call last night, I told them we had written to ask them to communicate in writing (about 10 days ago) and to please respect that. They were a bit off with me. Is this common?
  • I wrote a post earlier but it disappeared into the 'system' and I couldn't get it back again:mad:. It's not 100% DMP related but I hope no one minds.

I had a big surprise today when I received a letter from Lloyds with a cheque for nearly £90:j. The letter said that they had undertaken a review of their internal collection processes and found they hadn't taken the appropriate course of action over my account when dealing with my financial difficulties. I didn't ask for this investigation, it came out of the blue. Maybe others on here who have had debts with Lloyds will be pleasantly surprised too:T

My debt with them is an old credit card debt, my biggest, which has never been sold on since I started my DMP in 2013. I requested CCA info as this debt dates from late 1990s but it came back as enforceable:(. I still have my doubts and am getting the paperwork checked but the letter I got today says they have used nearly £200 of the 'refund' to pay towards the outstanding balance of my debt. I'm not too pleased about this as the debt might turn out to be unenforceable and the money would have been a godsend if they'd sent me a cheque for the whole amount of just shy of £300. Since I've been self-managing my DMP I've been paying them £1 tokens for about 6 months now so I expect they thought they'd try to get some money paid off somehow:eek:

That's their problem, you requested for them to only contact you in writing, you have to just keep telling them to remove your phone no's from their system plus you can block their no's on your phone as well.

I just tell them that I do not discuss anything on the phone & to send anything in writing so there are no misunderstandings going forward. ;)

    Hi all,
Just at the end of my first month on my DMP with SC having already made payments in early / mid May.

All my creditors have been ok except one account at Santander where there are charges due for arranged overdraft fees. Initially sent a secure message but their response was to phone them, so I did. I had given them my SC number in March by secure messaging.
The collections department were very helpful and went through all my accounts and refunded all the past charges.

Thanks to all on here for posts and advice given, that gave me the confidence to call and dispute the charges. To all those new on this journey - they were very reasonable and helpful. No demands or anything nasty.
Quite the opposite of how I had imagined they would react.

The next step is to get the OH to stop working her 220+ hours per month.

I have been in a DMP for YEARS! I've been paying off at about £67 a month and my annual review is now upon me.

I have a disabled 3 year old daughter and have only this year applied for, and started to get DLA for her. I understand unfortuantely that DMPs consider DLA as an income and that I can put the figure down as an income and then put the same figure down as an expenditure for Disability Living Expenses - is that correct?

I also receive tax credits. Because my daughter now gets DLA, this means she gets a higher premium with tax credits and therefore we get an extra £200-odd tax credits a month. How can I deal with this in regards to the DMP? My previous figure for tax credits was £589 4 weekly, but the DLA has made that increase to £863 and I am worried that Payplan will take so much more off me than I want to pay back. I have just got to the point, with this DLA, that I am no longer struggling and can actually start saving money - I need to be able to drive and am trying to save up for driving lessons. The intention is to get a motability car. I owe approx £8,700 now.

I appreciate that the payments will need to go up and would be happy to increase to £168 a month - which could mean paying off everything in 4 years' time - but with the extra tax credits they are going to be looking at making me pay more. Any advice please?

I should also add that my Ex keeps taking me back to Court for access, he has done so every year, and I really need to pay off existing legal fees as well as try and save for future Court battles.

I wouldn't tell them about the DLA or the increase in tax credits. That money is given for you to be able to support your daughter's needs, not to pay to your creditors.

You could increase payments, but alternatively you could save the extra and as and when you feel you have enough you could make full and final settlment offers to individual creditors - that way you could potentially be debt free sooner than you expect.

    HI

Just bumping this up as I too am just embarking on this journey too, and having secure messaging MBNA received a similar response, saying they wont' stop interest and to carry on paying them.... should I make token payments, is this necessary???? Really wanted to give it 3/4 months before starting on SC repayments so I can get my Emergency Fund up... any advice????

    thank you.

Agree with January, your DMP is an informal arrangement, and you are data controller of your own information, you are not regulated by any law or code of practice.

You tell them what you want them to hear, and show them what you want them to see.

If they ask for something you do not want them to know, just say no, its that simple.
