You obviously have your reasons about keeping your debts. Away from hubby and I hate to put a spanner in the works Carboot but what if he googles the name link?! I'm sure you've already had that in your mind but in case not, think about your answer if he indeed does twig
No fear of him Googling anything:rotfl:, he is a total technophobe, has never used a computer or smartphone in his life. Hard for anyone to believe but it's true. He has an 'old style' brick of a basic mobile that he never has charged up anyway. They've probably cancelled his PAYG number through never having been used in months. Added to that, he has a poor memory for names and has probably already forgotten the name 'Link'. All that's lucky for me in the current circumstances, eh?;)0 -

He retired from work many years ago and got away without having to use a computer at work in those days so never learned how to use one. He has no use for internet connection at home either as I deal with it all for us both. He doesn't trust online banking, he still maintains his own finances (which are totally separate from mine) in person at branches or by post. He rarely phones anyone on the landline, he likes to talk to people in person. He's real old school;)0 -
Bit of advice please:
I forgot to add my Littlewoods account onto my DMP then when I realised I thought well its only £25 per month I can afford that, however when I contacted Littlewoods to say I get paid on the last working day of the month and that's when I will be making payment they have said the payment needs to be every 28 days or they will charge a £12 admin fee.
I've already told them if they charge an admin fee this month I will cease making any payments to them and let them sell my debt on.
My question is shall I now add them to my DMP or call their bluff and see if they charge the admin fee?
I've read on here that they are notoriously difficult to deal with.0 -

Oh they will charge the £12 fee alright, they deliberately run there accounts every 28 days instead of monthly, in order to make profit from charges.
Only solid way to deal with them is as you describe.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. You've had some great advice already with regards to what to do next, but seriously I'd love to call and give them a piece of my mind on your behalf if I could. It's outrageous and they are just trying it on. Make sure you do block the number and if they try it again, threaten the Financial Conducts Authority - damn DCAs.
I have 3 o/s accounts with Link and whilst my situation is different in so far as these are my partners accounts and we are in a joint DMP - I would truly take great delight in telling them where to go if they confirm any of them are unenforceable. Seriously cheeky bleeders.
Give em what for Carbootcrazy - you know you can do it0 -
Would anyone advise on self managing debts and offering token payments after almost a year on a DMP with around 14k owing to various. I need to save and sort some things out before going part time next year. When I reduced the amount I paid via SC I got a sense that it was frowned upon and wonder what the advice might be from them, and if they might try to talk me out of self managing..or if I might end up in more of a pickle than I already am!DMP advice?

Hello, I'm a newbie on here and wonder if anyone can provide some advice please.
I've been on a DMP since last September 2016. I reduced my payments from the original amount agreed due to other commitments. I think I have around 5 yrs to go at £241 per month. I didn't save an emergency fund before I started out and SC advised that if there was an emergency I needed money for, they could be contacted and would support me. I just don't know what this really means and feel anxious as I don't have any surplus funds after all bills and living expenses are paid.
I'm also considering going part time next year as my job is pretty stressful and demanding but am feeling a bit frozen with fear re. my DMP and not having any money to live on!
Should I ask SC again if I can reduce payments in order to have an emergency fund etc. or do I just leave it? And contact them as and when an emergency might arrive?0 -

Fraise, if you feel ready for self-managing then I advise you to go ahead and do it. Lots of people on this thread started off with SC and then decided to self-manage somewhere down the line to give themselves more flexibility and control. I did this too earlier this year although it took me 4 years with SC before I gathered enough courage to do it:o. There's plenty of advice on this thread (please read back as many earlier posts as you can) and NEDCAB is a wonderful online resource too.
When I decided to self-manage I just told SC that's what I was going to do. You don't have to ask for permission, you do what's right for you. They didn't attempt to talk me out of it and were very helpful. You can even do it online if you don't want to talk to them about it.
Good Luck:beer:0 -
Thanks Sourcrates.
Yeah they seem very intent on getting every last penny out of it's customers. Thanks to this forum I will not be playing ball and they may also get a letter about irresponsible lending as they increased my limit from £125 to over 1k overnight having previously defaulted. Not actually behind with payment just can't pay tomorrow as get paid on Monday and they don't have a system that allows it its 2017 not 1917.0 -
Good morning everyone!
I have finally discussed the possibility of Hubby taking the DMP route for his CC debt and it was received reasonably well. (Money, tax, debt, all things that sent him loopy in the first place - the meds must be working!!!) I may need to change my name however, as I would like him to read through this forum, to get an understanding of how common DMP's are but he doesn't know about mine and he'll know who I am from my Forum handle!!
In other news, Halifax are still telling Payplan that they cant find my loan agreement - even though they have the loan ref. number and my correct address!! I wonder if this is a deliberate tactic to delay or make mischief?DMP launched 04/07/17 left to pay = £14,238.79 (£16,982.82 original debt.) Thanks to MSE & all you wonderful Forum Peeps!:T0
