I'm just so tired an exhausted and confused and I know I now look like a huge doofus, but, this whole DMP thing is stressful and confusing. I know you say not to make it more difficult than it needs to be but I guess we all deal in different ways. I'm kinda getting the hang of the forum now I think. Thank you

Please don't worry, we don't bite;). It's always good to welcome new people to the thread. I expect we've all been in a state of confusion, panic, anxiety over debts at some time or another. I know I certainly have when I hadn't discovered this thread and the brilliant people on it at the time. It's wonderful how reassuring a bit of advice and encouragement is from people who've 'been there and done it'.
It does get easier in time, I promise. Good Luck:beer:0 -
Hi all,
Newbie here, but I have been browsing these forums for a while, reading up on other peoples DMP experiences, and I must admit it is because of this forum that I have decided to take the plunge, and start a DMP of my own.
Myself and my wife have debts of nearly £22k spread across 6 creditors (3 credit cards, 1 loan, and 2 store cards), we thought for a long while that we could cope and that we were in control of our debts, but it turned out we were fooling ourselves, and perhaps we didn't want to admit to ourselves that we couldn't cope with how our debts were spiraling out of control. We were struggling to meet the minimum monthly repayments, and found ourselves relying on the credit cards to get us through the month.
We've now been in contact with Step Change and our DMP has now been set up, our first DMP payment is due to be taken in July. I guess this is the start of our journey. The DMP estimate was 8 and a half years to clear the debts, and obviously I'm hoping we can get it done a little bit quicker than that.
I just want to say thanks to all the people on this forum! Reading through all the advice and support you all give to each other has really given me a glimmer of hope! Coping with debt problems can really mess with your head, and at times I've felt like I've been in a dark and lonely place, with no help or hope, and nobody to turn to. This forum has made me realise that there is a way out, and a way to manage your debts, and that I'm not the only one dealing with debt problems. I only hope that by joining this forum, I can eventually contribute some help and advice to others who like me are at the start of their journey.0 -
Hi all
I still haven't caught up with reading this whole thread yet - boy does this thread get busy, busy, busy
Anyway - quick update on the boiler situation. New boiler required. We had three quotes and I'm very pleased to say a lovely, local gas safe engineer has replaced our boiler and we now have hot water (and heating, but we hadn't actually missed that). The cost to us was £250 (claim excess payment). The balance was covered by the insurance policy.
I was actually delighted it was decided the boiler was beyond economical repair as we would have paid the same excess for a repair.
No major DMP news to report from the January household. It plods along. I have sent CCA request for all our debts now. I had previously only bothered with pre-2007 accounts but decided I might as well try my luck with them all. I don't hold out much hope and can see the pigs flying past as I type this, but you never know unless you ask!!
Hope everyone is keeping well and happy.

January, our largest debt was taken out in June 2007 (unlucky timing huh?). We requested CCA 2 months ago which has still not been supplied so this debt is still unenforceable... fingers crossed it stays that wayAlways worth requesting the CCA's.

Always worth requesting the CCA's.
So far only one of my 6 debts is definitely unenforceable (around £6000 balance), they wrote and told me so:j. I wish I'd CCA'd this when it was at it's maximum of £13500:o. I'm still waiting for confirmation about the last one who wrote to tell me they were having problems locating the information but would get back to me;). 9 weeks since the first request sent so I live in hope with this one. Only a £2500 balance outstanding on it but every little helps, eh?
Good Luck, everyone:beer:0 -

Lovely post, Mr Yellow:T
A very warm welcome to you. The advice, support and encouragement from posters on here is second to none. My debt journey has been so much easier and less stressful since I discovered this thread. In lots of ways it's introduced an element of fun and adventure into it:rotfl:. I just wish I'd discovered it, like you have, when I first started on my DMP.
Sending you and your wife the best of luck:beer:0 -

No, nothing to do with dancing:rotfl:.
It's a site called All About Debt. There's a paid subscription aspect to it but there's no need to pay anything to join. All I've needed to find so far has been free:j
Tried to post the link (several times) but for some reason MSE won't accept it:mad:.
Try searching for All About Debt. It's .co.uk. Let me know if you have any problems finding it. Good Luck0 -

Hi Jan
Could I be rude and ask who the boiler insurance was with, mine is currently uninsured and therefore rather a risk if summat goes wrong.
Good luck with the CCA stuff, you never know

hello again everyone
quick question if creditors dont need to see a payslip when doing a self-managed dmp what is to stop me from putting a very low amount for my income to get to payments as low as possible?
if i only earn my basic salary every month i wouldn't be able to afford my house hold bills nevermind pay off 100k debt. so if i made my i & e only leave £500 a month for creditors (10 in total ranging between 5 and 20 k ) it would granted take me 17 years to pay off (if it was interest free) but in reality i would have spair money to start offering sensible f and f in 2 - 3 years.
are creditors likely to except 0.5 percent of the balance as monthly payments without deciding to take me to court and get the 10 percent equity we have in the house?(morgage is joint so technically only 5 percent)
i am hoping to come out the other end without ccjs as i do work in finance sort of and althought getting them wouldnt mean losing my job it would make it hard to move companies in the future.
having read your diary january i would love to know what your thoughts are?0
