I think if we could afford it I would consider a photographer, but after speaking to photographers at a wedding fair, I know there is no way we could get the photos we want at a price we can afford.

As you're getting married in a quieter time of the year you could always try calling up some of the photographers you saw at the wedding fair a couple of weeks before your wedding and asking them for a good deal. It's unlikely you'll get a decent album for a budget price (after all the cost of albums doesn't go down in the off season!) but you might be able to get them to give you some limited coverage and a few prints so you can make your own album.

I do agree with what you said about there being plenty of people out there who were disappointed with their wedding photographer. That's probably as a result of many people thinking its a great Saturday job and not having the right equipment/skills to do it properly. Usually you can tell who these might be cos they don't charge enough to make a living from it. If you don't make a living from it then it's not a job - its a hobby!

  • I want to do my own album anyway - I'm very much into craft and I love scrapbooking, I think you get a much more personal touch and I think it's more interesting than a 'boring' photo album. I'm not completely ruling out a professional, but my brother is very into his photography, and as my mum, sister and I are doing everything else, I thought he would like to be involved too. I hate getting my photo taken too, which puts me off a professional!:D

Ok, I've not updated for such a long time! I have now purchased my ring!!! I'm so excited now! The ring was £245 (or £0 with my Tesco vouchers) out of Goldsmiths! I love it, I just want to keep taking it out the box to look at it! Also went and paid half the Registrar fees today £120!! And picked up the Marriage Notice forms - it's beginning to feel very real now!
I've finished the day invitations now, and am half way through the evening ones.
I have a friend who's husband is a Piper, and is in a pipe band so hopefully will be able to get a piper for a very reasonable price to pipe me down the aisle!
Still got to organise the band, and chose a cake design. Oh and a dress!! I know what I want, but haven't seen the perfect material yet! I'm not going to worry yet, maybe by the week before if my mum hasn't started I will begin to worry!!

hi glad to catch up with you again.
I've finally found my dress and what was the icing on the cake was the 20% off discount. But it's not why i chose it.
I'm still to finalise the band had contacted one but they have never got back about the final band member being available - guess it's time to start looking at other bands now.
Good luck, glad you've got your rings, ours were bought in Italy and i've only seen them once, but eventually we need to try and get my OH's ring re engraved as his mother spelt my name wrong!
I'm considering cross stitching some cake bands but need to check it through in case i will have bitten off more than i can chew.

    Well done on your dress!
I've just started into making my favours, the bits arrived today (from ebay), and they are looking lovely even if I do say so myself!! I bought little candles in Tesco, which were a bargin, and got cream and gold bonboniere (sp?) and cream and gold ribbon to decorate! (Our colour scheme is cream and gold -I want a gold wedding dress!)
Good luck with your band hunt!! That reminds me I need to make some calls to potential bands...
  • Hi
Are you having bridesmaids? What are your colours - I ask as I have some bits from my wedding - some unused I thought you might benefit from?

we've got the chocolate balls now for our favours (Lidl) and so are ready to start making them all. May need a bit more net but not sure, only one way to find out. I managed to get the ribbon from ebay and may need some more as i'm thinking of tying red ribbon around the napkins as we're going for the standard white (free) table linen and it will put some colour on the table.

I think I'm going to get my bro to take the photos - I'm not a fan of getting my picture taken and I hate posed shots. My brother has a great camera and does very good pictures. When I was at a wedding fair with my mum a few weeks ago, I was looking at a photobook - a storybook style, which is what I fancied, it was going to cost £1800 for the small album or £2000 for the larger one - you can imagine, my mum just about had to pick me up off the floor:D:D

Hi - congrats on the upcoming wedding! Sounds like you have most everything sorted, just wanted to add a couple of things!

1 - re a prof photographer - you said you don't enjoy having your photo taken, that might be all the more reason to get a prof photographer, as they will know how to best show you off in pics. Have a look on the hitched forums- there are often new photographers looking to build their portfolio, I have often seen photographers offering their services for free!
2 - Also, when my brother got married recently and had his photos professionally done in a storybook - the funny thing is, its really easy (if you are a little handy with computers) to make these yourself - I made a few sample pages for the photographer so he could get an idea of what we wanted, and it only took me 10mins or so. You can then get these printed in photobooks which are dirt cheap, and come with lovely covers, they look very prof..

    Good luck with everything!
We got rid of the kids. The cat was allergic. ;)

    Debt at LBM (Sep 07): £13,500. Current debt: [STRIKE]£680[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£480[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£560[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£13[/STRIKE] £0 overdraft :D
Current aims - to start building up savings
    1st £1000 in 100 days - £1178.03 :D 2nd £1053.38/£1000 :D 3rd £863.59/£1000 :o

Good luck with making them! I'm having fun doing mine, although tying the ribbon is a little tricky with just two hands! That sounds like a nice touch, adding the ribbon to the napkins, makes it more personal:D

piptom&AndyPandy: I'm having my sister and her daughter (10) as bridesmaids, I think my sister is wearing dark red and I think my niece will wear a combination of dark red and gold :D

mogwai: I will have a think about a professional photographer, I really wanted a photobook, when I asked about one at a fair, the small book was priced at £1500, and £2000 for the bigger book:eek:  . I want to do my own album, in a scrapbook style, so it's very personal - I did one for my friends wedding.

Tried on some dresses today, I know it's leaving it late - but my mum is making it, and is used to me doing last minute things! ANyway, I am now totally confused! I thought I knew exactly what I wanted..... I tried on some that I would never have considered - totally different to what I had imagined and loved them! But this does open up so many different avenues for me know - I don't know if that is a good thing or not!
Also got a bargin off of the Confetti website - black and white disposable cameras for on the tables at 99p each:D:D:D
