I'm getting married on a budget next year. Here's my thread here of what I have done so far. It's getting more and more expensive by the minute. I'm spending around £2000 but that includes a week in china for the honeymoon!!

Right well, I've not updated this much, so here is how I'm getting on so far....

The recepton is booked at the Hilton, we are cutting back on practically everything else, and figured that we could spend a little on the reception. At £19.50 a head it is not too bad! We are also having our ceremony here - no cars needed!
I am half way through making the invites - I think they look nice!!! I have done quite a bit of card making, so wasn't much of a challenge!!
My tiara is here!!!!! £12.50 off of ebay - it is exactly what I wanted - Celtic style.
Not decided on what the cake will be as yet - possibly going down the route of small individual cakes - my sister is making it/them!!
Been looking for fabric for my dress - I know exactly what I want but not found it yet, my mum is a fabulous dress maker, haven't decided on a colour for the bridesmaids yet...
I think I'm going to get my bro to take the photos - I'm not a fan of getting my picture taken and I hate posed shots. My brother has a great camera and does very good pictures. When I was at a wedding fair with my mum a few weeks ago, I was looking at a photobook - a storybook style, which is what I fancied, it was going to cost £1800 for the small album or £2000 for the larger one - you can imagine, my mum just about had to pick me up off the floor:D:D
My OH already has his kilt outfit - so no probs there!
I'm going to do my own hand-tied flowers too, and table decorations.
    I think we're pretty much sorted:D:D:D
Going to have a Ceilidh band that we have heard before, and I think I'm going to have a piper to pipe me down the aisle!!!!

Forgot to say wedding date is 29th March 2008!!!!
  • Hi Catwoman, congratulations!

Friends of mine got married last year. They had both been married before, so decided to scale things down this time. She bought just about everything from ebay, including a marquee for her garden! He downloaded all their favourite songs onto an ipod and played that instead of having a dj/band.

Hi Catwoman i'm getting married September of next year. We're trying to do our bit in the DFW way, thankfully my parents are paying for the reception but even with their money i'm being very DFW. So much so that my mum has started laughing at my tightness (her words)
  • Hi and congrats on your wedding. We got married 3 years ago and had a fantastic day on a budget. We hired a lovely room in a country house owned by the council. We had a civil ceremony so married in the room and had a cold buffet afterwards. Family helped and made sure the day went smoothly

My dress came from Debenhams and was red (not traditional I'm afraid). We bought 3 iced tiers cakes from M& S and a friend decorated them. My flowers were done quite cheaply by a local florest. I looked in the expensive bride magazines and did ideas on a budget. We left disposable cameras on the tables and with everyone almost having a digital camera just asked for ones from the day afterwards. So we got the best of everyones photos. My husband is an artist so he did a drawing of the coutryhouse we were marrying in and we printed them.

We had a great day and everyone one was included and it had a lovely relaxed atmosphere

......I bought my tiara from hobbycraft for 10.00.!!!

    hope this helps

Our parents are contributing too, I think part of my reasoning for keeping the cost down is that I think companies charge ridicuolous amounts of money for anything that involves the word 'wedding'!!:D
Really the only things we are really paying for (professionally) is the reception, band and piper, we're doing everything else ourselves!
Good luck with your wedding too Lemon Tree, you have longer to plan & save! ;) We've been engaged for 7 and a half years, I think it's now reached the point where if we don't do it now - we'll never do it!

guess we can support each other as we go along. I've only been engaged since June so we're trying to save as much as we possibly can. I'm doing some things myself such as stationery. Ok i'm not doing the cheapest way possible but i'm getting a lot more for my money than if i bought it so i looks like i'm spending a fortune. It's getting to be a challenge to get what i want for the least amount possible. I know what you mean about adding the word wedding and the cost tripling, it really does my head in.

    Hi there

I am getting married on 18th December this year in the USA. My wedding is costing $399 (£200) and I am getting married in a little log cabin church in Tennessee. I got my dress and bolero jacket from the debut range at Debenhams (£140 for both), but got my hair pins off ebay, my shoes off ebay, my flower arrangements off ebay (as obviously they had to be silk) plus my daughters dress and shrug off ebay... and had my husband to be's cravat made from a lady off ebay who also made me a matching dolly bag. I love ebay!!!! :T

As my parents live in the US we are staying with them before and after the wedding which won't cost us anything and they have paid for us to have 3 nights in Tennesee. Our whole trip will cost us £2500 (£1000 for the flights) so all in all a cheap wedding, especially as we are there for 3 weeks so wedding and honeymoon all rolled into one! Luckily the dollar is very weak against the pound at the moment so we have $2600 spending money after settling up for the wedding. Woo hoo!!

Good luck with your wedding... its so much fun organising all the little bits.
