I've moved this thread over to the Vent board. It might prove interesting for any other customers on there wanting to complain about poor customer service from Abbey. :)
  • Can you pass the address to complain.

    Customer Satisafaction Centre
    Po Box 5125
    Milton Keynes
    MK5 2YN

can i just also add that the OP makes it sound like this is a general rule.
simply write to abbey complaining about the poor service and they credit your account with £20

if you have had a bad service (for any product) you have a right to complain, but that doesnt necessarily mean you are entitled to monetary compensation.

From when I worked at Abbey (it might have changed)

Only 0845 9 724 724 and the credit card line *may* terminate in India, but you may get Bradford, Gateshead, Glasgow, Derby or Sheffield.
0845 765 4321 *always* terminates in the UK (Bradford, Belfast, Bournemouth, Liverpool, Glasgow or Belfast)

0845 9 724 724 is the Banking Centre - Balances, Transfers, Bills, Direct Debits, Standing Orders etc
0854 765 4321 is "Customer Engagement & Growth" - all operators can give balances and cancel mandates and some can set up standing orders and pay bills. In theory, if that particular operator can't the request should be passed to a cashier on the team but you may be transferred to a Banking Centre and this may be in India. This is a General Customer Service Line for all products and they will probably try to flog you something.

Sorry I can't remember the non-geo numbers except for Lost and Stolen which is 01908 344 900 (terminates Milton Keynes). Banking Centre is a Manchester (0161) number even though they don't have a call centre there.

Staff are instructed not to give out non-geo numbers.

0845 765 4321 *always* terminates in the UK (Bradford, Belfast, Bournemouth, Liverpool, Glasgow or Belfast)

Customer Engagement and Growth is now called "General Sales" but basically they are as richy describes.

dont recognise that number for lost and stolen have to say (although it may still be correct - i havent used it for a while)

non geo numbers are 0161 because they go through the manchester switch board but as pointed out these wont be disclosed to public.

I am an abbey customer, when i had problems with my debit card the day before a business trip, i used the 0161 number, which is given on the back of my card as a number to dial from abroad. I used it to get round the 0845 stuff 'cos i only had my mobile and it's not part of the inclusive minutes (think the 0161 was :D ), i got put through to india.
head banging and brick wall sprung to mind
even chavs (aka scallies, townies etc) understand better english :D
things arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back then ;)
BH is my best mate too, its ok :)

I trust BH even if he's from Manchester.. ;)

all your base are belong to us

Thanks David. It's a while since I worked there.

I know from when I worked there that they make you be arsey about putting people through to another department, but I rang last week to see about my ISA on 0800 587 2764 (Sales) and they put me through no probs. Saved me dialling the 0845 that they wanted me to.

I dunno if it's still the case but when I worked there if the dedicated Sales (Applications) Lines were busy, which they almost always were, you'd get through to CE&G/General Sales instead.

I don't think 0800 587 2764 mind putting you through too much because they'll be more interested in reaching their Completion Targets.
