Well, when I was a student I donated blood to get the free cup of tea and biscuits, did smuggle home the odd toilet roll from a public loo as I couldn't afford to buy any, and stole a pint of milk from a doorstep once as again I was totally skint and the cupboard was bare.
I wouldn't do any of it now, honest! I was young and didn't know any better, honest, guv!
Also I ate a lot of potato and lentil curry because it was cheap, cheap, cheap.
I feel quite well off now because I may be in debt, but at least I can afford to buy food, lol.Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

I've just read through this and had to have a quiet moment in the ladies as the people I work with were wondering why I just started laughing!!!
But...
You know things are hard, when pasta and baked beans make a meal. And bread is still ok if you can cut the moldy crusts off!
Yes I was a student!Current debt - £16,300Debt at worst 17/03/2011 - £18,067.62:eek::eek::ANot going anywhere else, ever again :A0 -
Your shoes are falling apart and worn at the edges, but you colour them in with black marker pen to hide the worn bits for an interview.
Similarly when my black tights got a hole, I'd colour in my leg with marker pen...
Oh yes, and when you then spill ink all over your towel and it won't come out in the wash, but you keep on using it - can't afford a new one!
When you know the teeny white specks on your brown bread are mould, but you toast it anyway. And most of your diet is cheap carbs like pasta, lentils, pulses, plus a lot of tinned tomatoes!
Oh, and you have to fold your pillow in half 'cos it's so flat but even the cheap ones look expensive.Old-styler, crafter and freebie junkie!Frogga's Amazing Weight Loss Campaign: Member no.20 since 2/9/07 -- lost 10lbWedding bells 04/10/08

when you have raided the piggy bank and have had to resort to the kids savings just to buy toilet roll or a newspaper (and yes i did eventually pay it back phew)0

You know times are hard when you go to a free public loo and nick loads of toilet roll in order to save money!
Yeah, I've done that, but you know it's really bad when you go to the public loo and want to nick the toilet seat, because the one at home is broken:rotfl:
