you know times are hard when your belly is rumbling, you open the cupboard and find nothing  .
That is not me , but if i did that and found nothing i would know the times were hard.I came into this world with nothing and I'm gonna leave with nothing.0 -
ooooh, been there in the past more times than I dare remember elantan.
Many years ago (early 90s) I was earning 9k a year working at the local council and up to my eyes in debt after just graduating. OH at the time had just finished training as a teacher and we were pretty brassic after buying a house (45k, seems such a tiny amount now!!!!) and taking out a loan to get a car (that was still rubbish.......ahem).
I worked a 10 minute walk away so every single lunch time I walked home and made chips in an old manky chip pan and then walked back to work. OH had lunch at school, but I didn't have the money for the canteen at work.
During the day I drank water as the drinks were from a vending machine and I sometimes didn't have the pennies (literally) to scrape together to get a 12p cup of tomato soup.
Dark times.
Stupidly didn't learn though......."Stay Wonky":D

just a tad...........
wish it had built my character into one that got rid of debt sensibly rather than flippin' well consolidating it again and again........wish the internet had been around in the early 90's - MSE would have saved my skin a whole lot earlier than it eventually did!!"Stay Wonky":D

I can remember a few: The 2 slices of bread & 2 eggs that was all we had, gave OH his egg on toast & then broke my egg open to fry
Jeeezzzz, I had to run outside holding the frying pan cus of the stench AND my slice of bread was mouldy.
The tin of processed ham I nicked that lasted me a week (cant look at the stuff now)
Starving hungry the day before payday I found a pound coin & bought a bag of samosas, stomach cramps for a week.
As a special treat years ago I got one of those ready beef dinners for Easter day as I was by myself. Dog eat the flaming thing while I was answering the door & no shops open for more food.
It was like heaven when I got a part time job in a drop in centre & they had a soup kitchen. Still remember those halcyon days with affection.
But as you say: its character buildingTallyhoh! Stopped Smoking October 2000. Saved £29382.50 so far!0 -
Yup - payday for me tomorrow. I'll have a number crunching session this weekend to plan October's finances but basically it's all spoken for :sad:0

You know times are hard when you go to a free public loo and nick loads of toilet roll in order to save money!Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)0

When the only fruit you've had this week are brambles you rummaged for an hour to collect from bushes and an apple from the neighbours tree :rotfl:
If I didn't laugh I'd cry lolDebt free since 2014 - now saving for a mortgage deposit :heart2:
This time I'm on top of it! We live and learn :coffee:0
