run FREE Malware bytes as it wont harm you.

I am 1.2 miles from the exchange and I get about this from link above, but do it next (few feet away) to the router

Also disconnect the router and filter and plug in a phone dial 0 to get past the dial or ring tone (or phone your mobile) and listen for noise as in whistles, pops and crackles, as in poor line.

Though sounds like a phone company isp thing

Thank you forgotmyname, grumpycrab and were, I've rebooted the router which has helped. I've spoken to BT many times about our broadband. I find that they keep me talking for a long time so calls can be very expensive. BT say they can't improve the speed. No noise on the line. Despite using a splitter when we get incoming calls on our business lines the broadband disconnects and then reconnects when the call is finished. I'll install malaware bytes this evening.

We're not with BT at the moment but I'd be surprised if you had to pay for calls to BT Business Support!? Time to, politely but firmly, ask to speak to a manager; take their name; say you've been paying £X per month/year for Y months/years and that you don't believe you're getting the service you signed up to; ask the manager how long it will take HIM/HER to resolve the lack of service - make a note of the date - and tell him that you'll change providers after that date and seek compensation. etc. etc. Or write a letter if you don't like the phone.

Heres that link to malwarebytes but i think you had best leave it downloading overnight on your current setup ..

    https://www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-download/thankyou/

Are you sure all the phones in your propperty are connected through a microfilter as it does sound like something is wrong here ..

Do you have sky ? If so, is your sky box also filtered ?

One last thing to give us an idea of whats going on, please run a speedtest using a different device ie a mobile phone or tablet. Look for the speedtest app by Okala on the app/play store.

The first thing is to determine if the issue lies on the line or the machine, although in this case i suspect both

Thanks Andy for the link to malaware bytes.
We have Sky but but no splitter on the Sky box. My mobile is only connected to the internet via WiFi at home. No internet access on my phone when out. No tablets but I have a Kindle Paperwhite. The WiFi on my Kindle and phone is awful when I am upstairs.

Grumpycrab, BT Business used to provide free internet support as part of our package but this was stopped years ago. We now have to pay for it. The last time I phoned about an email issue I had a feeling that the BT person was keeping me on the phone for much longer than was needed. The cost of that call was about £8.00. I'll do a search and see if I can find a free phone number. We used to pay BT £5 a year to host our website. Now it's £5.00 a month.
