Boiler replacement - Boxt.co.uk

Just had my new WB boiler installed with Boxt, with a 10 year parts & labour guarantee.
Came in at £2550 for a full install, hive thermostat and system flush.. which included moving the boiler from a bedroom to the attic, which was quite a big move in itself. The closest quotes I had for the same job was £2900 for a Baxi with a 7 year guarantee. Couldn't get anywhere near for a WB.
Was very apprehensive when first considering Boxt, due to the fixed price, and not getting to know the engineer, or seeing their previous work. But had excellent service, which came in far cheaper than I could get else where and with a longer guarantee on a WB(7 yrs vs 10). Plus excellent service offered, very efficient, and the engineer couldn't have been more helpful, and the standard of work was second to none.
I can only assume that they are able to keep their prices so low because they are part owned by WB, and they are missing the trade desk stage of sale. As even the fitter mentioned that he got paid the same for a Boxt job, than he would be able to make by doing an equivalent install himself.
But either way i'm not complaining! Would definitely use them again, and recommend them to others0 -

I have been looking at the Viessmann but to get more than the basic 5 year warranty you’ll need to make sure the installation has to be completed by a Viessmann trained engineer and you have to pay for the extension though they wouldn’t say how much, it has to be serviced by viessmann too.
I spoke to viessmann and they said ...
Good morning Michelle, Yes, this is correct – here are our warranty terms and conditions, which should provide you with all of the information you need.
Best wishes, Kayleigh.

I had my Viessmann installed through an online company named Heatable (www.heatable.co.uk) and they were really good. You can check them out, they have very good reviews. I also got a 10 year warranty from Viessmann because they have a tie-up with Heatable. They also install Worcester Bosch and Alpha boilers.
There is also an online company called Boxt, who have a tie-up with Worcester Bosch and also have good reviews.1 -
Well I'm looking at all of this as I may well replace my 30 year old Potterton Netaheat this year. It still runs great but as a pensioner starting to notice the cold a bit more I don't want it to pack up in the middle of January. It has served me well but I would also like to do my bit for climate change with a more efficient boiler. So I have observed a few things having read every post. It seems that is always the plumbers who are more sceptical. Yes, they are more knowledgeable than us but that has also put them in position where they have been less ripped off by local tradesmen over the years. They are also probably trying to protect their £100 an hour. A friend has just been quoted £220 to change a circulating pump. A job I've done myself before now in 30 mins with isolating valves either side. You can buy a well rated pump for under £100. Besides with what seems to often be a £1000 saving even if you were one of the really unlucky ones that saving should cover any remedial work so you wouldn't be worse off.
I see that BOXT is still going and well received after is it 4 years now? Weren't they have supposed to have gone bust by now?
One thing I do notice is that everybody is trying to push combi-boilers. I'm not really sure why because you can get an as efficient conventional condensing boiler which is less dependent on good water pressure and with a pumped shower as I have now, probably a better shower. I only have hot water on for an hour in the morning and 30 mins in the evening and that gives hot water all day long. Also less worries about pressure leaks I would think with an old system.

Maybe not, just yet. But when you are older you tend to plan ahead to avoid worst case scenarios. One thing I have discovered is that if you swap a conventional boiler with a gravity hot water system and pumped CH (the most common back in the day) you have to have it converted to fully pumped and BOXT charge a surcharge of £975 for this and you don't see that on the online fixed quote, it kicks in later when you send in the photos!

Looking back over this thread it is remarkable how many people appeared, had a great experience with BOXT and then disappeared.I was just reading that there are one or two other online only organizations that have started copying BOXT, I wonder if they, too, have customers who appear and disappear like this lot.It is a bit of a minefield - I'm trying to come to a decision myself, but I think I'll give the online route a miss. If there ARE genuine customers reading this please speak up.0

British Gas really shook the market up by charging stupid amounts for boiler fitting. The installers just want to fit boilers. BIG money. I am sure that Boxt can undercut British Gas and still make massive profits. If you work for Boxt you would get boiler installs day after day so would be really well paid. The problem these days is that the plumbers are so obsessed with fitting boilers you can't get repairs or other jobs done. Boilers will be disposable items. If anything goes wrong "oh yes, you need a new boiler".1

Aren't gas boilers being sent to the scrap heap under this governments move to electric?0
