Bear in mind that "CrashyTime" has been registered on this forum for getting on for three years now under the name "CrashyTime", and has been predicting an imminent crash for that length of time at least.

Anyone who listened to their advice when they first joined would still be sitting and waiting for the crash, having watched prices rise steadily.

That's not to say a crash won't happen tomorrow. Just to give you an idea of the reliability of that source.

How many of the "reliable" sources on here predicted Trump/Brexit? Wonder how someone who took out a very large mortgage 3 years ago feels now?

They're right, since I've been here you have consistently been predicting a housing armageddon. Not just for one or two months but for years! If someone would have listened they would have been priced out of the market waiting for the property crash you keep saying was about to happen!

It seems your glass is half empty all the time, cheer up! :)

They are probably sitting happy and 10-15% of the way to paying off. Rather than having spent £££ in rent and finding that that prices have gone up now and being told that they can't afford it now because of MMR.

Actually, I think a housing crash would be a good thing for the majority, so I wouldn't say predicting one is being pessimistic. I would lose out by it, but I think more affordable property would generally be much better for most. However wanting it to happen is a very different thing from expecting it to happen.

No, don't misunderstand me, I don't mind predictions and expectations but be realistic, persistently predicting the same thing for YEARS is kind of...strange. Though I suppose the church has been saying Jesus will return for quite a while now...

As someone who saw the last housing crash in the 1990s and lost 30k on a house I know it stings. But for that money lost the house we bought in the slump more than covered it when we sold it. If you buy a house and think of it as a home it really does not matter how the market moves unless you sell it and realise a gain or a loss.

Fine thanks, my basic repayment is less for a 2 bed house than the 1 bed flat I was renting 9 years ago. Also I haven't had to speak to a letting agent in 3 years, what bliss.

OP, check out the "sold" prices in the road for the past year or so. If the price has gone up significantly, that would explain the rush to sell.

The value of houses in my road has risen by a huge amount, due to the Crossrail works and the new station which is going up nearby. We saw a "gold rush" effect, with several neighbours all putting their houses up for sale at the same time, all of which sold really quickly.

Thanks Barbie, we've looked at sold prices on the road and last year they sold for about 10k less than this one is on now - although we do know from looking for 8 months that the prices in this area generally are skyrocketing. We thought that may be a reason why, an EA posting flyers saying 'did you know a house sold in this area for £xxx recently?'!
  • 3 houses on our close went up for sale in a very short space of time because unfortunately the residents has passed away and their families sold up. but we do have a lot of older people in the road so to be expected!

Emergency interest rates are the reason for that though, how long will they continue?
