BT to EE ?

I apologies in advanced for the novice nature of my query.

I currently pay £42.49 per month for my broadband/phone package with BT
£18..99 p.m line rental
£20.00 ult broadband and weekend calls
£3.50 evening calls add on

EE can do this for £28 per month
£18.50 line rent
£10 ult broadband and weekend calls

So to me it seems a no brainer to save some cash and switch. However I live in a super rural area where signal for mobile phones is non-existent and I worry I’d be jeopardising my broadband quality if I switched. I can’t fault BTs service it’s been fantastic. However I am conscious I may be able to get a cheaper deal and Ive heard that their prices will going up soon anyway.

2 questions
Does changing broadband provider usually effect quality of broad band?
How easy is it to swap provider? (I am nearly at the end of my contract with BT – am calling them later to confirm)

Thanks in advanced xxx

I similarly swapped my phone about a year ago.

EE do free caller display and voice mail.

EE will also do ANYTIME calls for ~£5.50? including some mobile minutes

I can't comment on the BB aspect, but I would defiantly switch. Speed may be slightly different, but MOVE !

When your out of your minimum term,
You simply take up the contract with EE, and they cancel BT and move your number over if you request that.
    Takes a couple of weeks

As BT own EE, I don't think you will notice any difference in BB quality!

I also live in a remote rural area with a terrible mobile signal. EE have just given me a "signal box", which plugs into your broadband router and broadcasts a signal from that. It's brilliant.

If you have an iPhone, or a modern smartphone supplied by EE, and you are on a pay monthly contract, then you don't need the signalbox; the phones can simply work over broadband.

Hi we were on the same deal with BT, so my husband called BT & we now have BT BB infinity & land line with free weekend calls for £30pm, so we stayed with BT.

Call them and see what BT will do to keep you.

Is that only for 12 months though.

The trouble with BT is you have to keep jumping though hoops every 12 months to get deals. (I don't mind doing that for energy) but life is too short to deal with BT every year!

Yes as other people have said EE is owned by BT and on a rural exchange everyone is probably reselling the same bt service anyway.

EE used to have a terrible reputation for customer service but then so does BT and with luck you will never need to use it.

I just joined them, in part because for £6.50 you get free calls to mobile phones and some foreign countries which will save us a fair bit. Its very early days but everything is working just fine so far.

Remember to use a cashback site like quidco or topcashback and you might get and extra £50 off.

Bt offer bt wifi, junk call blocking and email services. EE have stopped having an email server and no BT wifi. Otherwise pretty similar I think.

I don't think anyone is expected to pay the standard BT rates, they are way out of kilter of everyone else, everyone is just expected to be on a "deal".

hence you need to do a deal with BT every 12 months.

EE use UK customer services these days.
  • Thank you for all the replies!

Spoke to EE at great lengths regarding the switch and will definitely be doing so...
My issue now is that the BT contract is in my land lords name so going to have sort out a 3 way convo with him and EE ! Great!

ANYTIME calls for ~£5.50? - Ill be asking them about that! Brillaint hopefully ill be saving myself some money soon!

    From EE site

All our broadband packages come with inclusive weekend calls to UK landlines (beginning 01, 02, 03) as standard.

You can also add our Anytime package for just £6.50 a month extra. This comes with inclusive anytime calls to UK landlines, 1,500 minutes to UK mobiles and inclusive calls to landlines in 40 countries (like Australia, Canada, China, Poland and USA).

Or you can add 500 minutes to 42 international destinations (including Brazil, India, Pakistan and Russia) for just £6.50 a month extra. Plus, you'll get a 30% discount on calls to all international landlines.
