    Wow, that's a great deal, £17 for a service.... :D
It is easy to not include some of the annual costs in our planning particularly for "variable" items; I realise we don't allow for our glasses but that must be an average of £200 per year.... we have a line item "Ancillary costs" set at £150 per month to cover these things and the odd meal out etc, so hopefully it is a reasonable allowance over the year in our budget planning.
  • I like getting money back from B Gas - our gas constantly runs in credit because the smallest Direct Debit they can take is £5 per month, however we use so little gas it is very nearly paid for by the direct debit & dual fuel discounts! They usually only pay out when it your credit balance hits £50 but they've agreed that for us they should pay out under this level as it's not our fault we go into credit.

It's annoying to have to pay out for the boiler service but I guess at least you'll know it's all A-OK going into the cold months. We have a inoperative storage heater in the front room which we have to "get a man in" for I think...it's one of the biggest in the flat so it will make a massive difference to the temperature in the place if we can get it fixed.

Your energy saving is really inspiring - and I mean that literally, as I said before, it's your postings on the subject that have got me doing the same thing.

  • Aww thanks for the nice comments - it keeps me going:D. I'm sure our boiler is fine but Mr SMF2 is safety conscious and wants it checked - can't be to careful I suppose:D.

Our CH came on for about 10 minutes this morning. The temperature had dropped to 18 degs. It's nice and warm and sunny now though:D. The heating is going to be the ultimate challenge.

    Good Luck everyone

Well I'm now the proud owner of a Northern Rock e saver account. It was all very easy to set up. I did think about trsing our ISAs to NR but the rates after the fixed period don't look so good..think I'll just watch and see how the credit crisis plays out:rolleyes:

Still can't quite believe it..."NR the safe place to put your money!":rotfl:

My CH has kicked in over the last couple of days for about 10 minutes in morning and evening. It is set to come on at 18 degs. This has pushed our use from 8 KWH per day to 17 kwh per day. At the cost of £0.02888 per KWH that is a rise of about 25p per day.

So the cost of our hot water is 23p per day and with the extra heating the cost per day has become 48p

I think I'm becoming an energy use nerd:rotfl:

Hubbie was talking about our usage but that's it just talking! He's a nightmare with the heating, puts on it high so its roasting so I go and turn it down on. I'm on the look out at the mo for curtains from freecycle to put up extra layers at the windows.

  • I guess curtain linings are something we should all think about really. I have a set somewhere - must look them out.

I'm wondering how much our heating wil change the costs.....at least they "stock up" overnight on the E7 rate so that will help. It's reading stuff like you've said above SMF that reminds me why I don't want central heating! (Remind me in the middle of winter when I'm sat here shivering that I've said that, eh?!)
