My car is happily sitting in the drive quite often these days but do use a couple of times a week, town is only across the road and will be walking with dd to school as much as possible (typical, just started raining so hope it stops before lunch time when i pick her up!)

Last filled up the car on 28th July and only needed to put in more yesterday, so fuel consumption is brill at the mo.

I'm SOOOO jealous! Mine needs a tankful at least three times a month at this time of year - can cut it back a bit in the winter when I'm not whizzing off to speedway once a week but best case scenario with pretty much just work trips only is once a fortnight!

Will increase dramatically when I go back to work as visit candidates all over North Wales so will have to plan to be in certain areas on each day so not doing long trips. Email from work yesterday to say that we will now be getting the full 40p per mile so that will help.

    Hi all,:hello::wave:

We're having a really tough month:undecided:cool2: Left ourselves slightly short because of our ambitious op last month...but we'll get through.

I had a thought. There are alot of Newbies around who may not have got the chance to read the thread of the FUNKY GIBBONS and I thought you might enjoy it. It's a really inspirational read..:cheesy::wink:

Hang in there; yes it is "easy" to push all out for better OP as we are all trying to clear the mortgage but then "something" can come along especially at the moment with increasing costs all round.

I concur with the link to the FunkyGibbons.

    Cheers

Hi SMF2, well done you for toughing it out, I know how organised you are so I'm sure you knew you would have a tough month this month but you weren't tempted to keep a little of your OP back so congratulations on sticking to your guns with your MFW (SMF;) ) quest.

Thanks for the funkygibbon link - I'd not come across it before - just read the first few pages but will have to do the rest over the next week I think.
I think I read somewhere that the MFW site has not been around as long as some of the others e.g. DFW and it would be nice to think that posts like the funkygibbon one contributed to us MFW'ers getting our own link. It's a shme to see that some people kind of missed what he was trying to say but sadly I guess thats the case with many things.

I think the Funky Gibbons was the first MFW. He still has a sticky.:D He is inspirational as he ends up paying off his mortgage in just 5 years (WOW).

I know what you mean about some peoples reactions to him but since we all borrow on multiples of our earnings then the hurdle we all face is roughly the same, whatever the actual amount we borrowed. So no idea why some people were so negative.

Still must keep going - 2 weeks until pay day (not that I'm wishing my life away I hasten to add)

i count pay day to pay day, ours is every 2 weeks roughly as dh gets paid on 15th and i get paid on 28th - works well for us.

I haven't read the funkygibbons diary for ages so going to remind myself what they did.
  • My pay day is the 20th and for some reason it feels like it's been coming round quicker than normal theses last few months, very odd but I'm not complaining.

I actually get paid this Friday as the 20th falls over the weekend and I can't wait to send my next OP (i'm adding a bit extra this month so this means that for the first time the OP will cover the whole of the interest charged so the normal payment will come straight off the capital):j

    Mortgage-free Glee!
    Hi:hello:

I feel really bad as I have just been into the Halifax and closed down our accounts. I started to feel abit worry that they seemed unstable. I know I'm probably being irrational. :o

TBH we had probably have over extended ourselves trying to put £500 per month more into a regular saver (10%;)) and if it just seemed like an extra worry, I began to think that it wasn't worth the effort. The kids money is for uni really. Been saving for 15 years to get a little pile of cash for them and we have money from relatives. In total there is just under £11k. So what shall we do with it? I might just put it into the mortgage and wait for this bank stuff to settle?
