Beanie you are always the good voice of reason
I have new recommendations from my counsellor today. I feel as though DS2 could be helped in the same way but they are still going down the medication route for him.
As a mental health occupational therapist I am so frustrated, as to what austerity has bought us too.
Medication is a crucial ingredient in the management of depression, you could say its the main ingredient, but a good recipe includes other elements that enhance the process - an individual needing this support should have access to other members of the multi discipline team such as an occupational therapist and a psychologist/counsellor. Doing and Talking are such important ingredients.
You are right being out near nature has huge therapeutic benefits, as well as keeping the hens, knitting, relationship with others.
I was reading yesterday, that someone with crippling depression, can not instigate action, they have no ability to begin, but if someone enables them to start, and they get going, however hard it might be, they will through the process of doing, feel brighter, and more able to complete a task.
Could you approach DS2 with the question, to help me (pooh bear) to feel a bit better I want to try X ( going to feed the ducks) there is no one else around to go with me, I don't want to go alone.. would you be willing to try and come with me?
Choosing the right words i.e. I think the words would you be willing... is important
Really do feel for you all, and hope that a health professional walks into your lives that has a wider perspective...
Love and Hugs

I'm not a health professional so this is only based on my personal experience but if it helps it's all good. We have a wonderful GP practice who gave my son the details of a local group who helped people with various problems. Drink/drug and other addictions, severe anxiety, depression (which he had) and much more. They assigned him a "friend" whom he could contact any time but they met once a week for a coffee and a chat. They had a lot of activities which he could join or not. Yo me it was just a gentle persuasion, if I can put it like that. He decided to start cycling with a group (they let him borrow a bike) and he eventually took part in a charity ride from Glasgow to Edinburgh. I'll never forget that day. He didn't think he could leave the house to do it but he did and the sense of achievement when he did was beyond description. Contacting that group was the single best thing he did to help his recovery. Don't get me wrong we still had a lot of ups and downs and blips but if there is something which i your area (in addition to medical advice, of course} it might just help.
I really wish you all the best. It is a much misunderstood condition.Have adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.0 -
Bubblesmum I will try what you suggest. I know I need to use the correct words and being his mum and worrying about him, maybe doesn't always help me to say it the best way. At his age he doesn't want to be 'mothered' so helping me may be a new starting point.I certainly could do with the company.
Toni'sfriend we could really do with something similar to what you have there. Having someone as a buddy like that could make a difference. DS sees a support worker for around 10-15 minutes every 3-4 weeks at the moment. They are extremely short staffed.
We did hear from DS3 last night, that he could be coming back to UK to take some short , half day, courses. It could be good for DS2 to see his brother. Good for me too.
I went to local carers hub yesterday. Not sure it really helps me but one thing I found is that there is a new online counselling service in the county. It might be something that could help DS2.
NSD for me but Mr P went out for a couple of hours. I don't know what he spent. It won't be a lot as most of the time he was at DB's place.
I did check our finances and our biggest spend after direct debits was £150 on diesel for the car. My appointments are mainly 35 miles away and I have had lots in last few weeks. We are below £150 for food for 3 of us this month and we have lots in the freezer to keep us going.business mortgage £0))''(+ Barclay's business kitchen loan £0=Total paid off was £96105 PPI claimed and received £13527

Thinking of you all. Here's hoping something helps DS2. I do hope DS3 being back will help.
Very pleased your new ladies are doing well. With eggs in the house I always know there is something to eat. Although I love our two cats dearly, they are not exactly productive in the same way :rotfl:
Think DD1 has made the tracker pad on the laptop 'sticky'..she certainly treats it as if its her own and I suspect its been strewn on her bed...floor..sofa (you get the picture)...and may have some minor damage
Will have to have a word with her to be more careful otherwise its an expensive repair. Your accounts on the other hand are a joy to read. Well done pooh...you're doing brilliantly in Frugaldom xx MFiT-T4 Member No. 96 - 2022 is my MF goal

Great news that DS3 will be back in UK for 9 days. Four of them he will be away on courses but we do get four days with him. As we didn't expect to see him until next year it is a bonus for us all. We are a close family despite the distance in miles between us.
Today has mainly been spent booking courses, flights and medical for DS3. I have made an extra payment of £88 to credit card but really need to list more things for sale online.
Thank you for your lovely message brizzled. I hope DD1 hasn't done any damage to your laptop. They are expensive when they go wrong.
More news here. DB is going back to Oz as he has a job. It is certainly 'All change' around here.business mortgage £0))''(+ Barclay's business kitchen loan £0=Total paid off was £96105 PPI claimed and received £13527

We've had a busy few days with lots of medical appointments. The fuel costs are eating into our food budget.
Hoping the cottage will sell a cheap short break next week to boost the coffers a little.
My best friend and brother have both emptied their food cupboards and freezers so we are okay for a while. I will miss both of them who have moved away. Not together, I must add!business mortgage £0))''(+ Barclay's business kitchen loan £0=Total paid off was £96105 PPI claimed and received £13527

We do have lovely friends and family beanie. No word from PIP either. I hate the waiting..
No sale for next week in the cottage which is disappointing but I do need time for some maintenance to be done. I can hopefully book a carpet cleaner to come in a clean the ground floor carpets. NSD today.
On Saturday i spent £22 on a present for a friend's 50th birthday but it is from all of us. Sadly, after 10 minutes at the party I had to leave as the flashing lights set off an awful headache. Mr P and I came home and we rustled up a quick supper so I didn't go to bed hungry.
Babysitting tonight so Mr P is coming to help me. Bolognese pasta for dinner tonight.business mortgage £0))''(+ Barclay's business kitchen loan £0=Total paid off was £96105 PPI claimed and received £13527

:rotfl:Another NSD yesterday. I find that not leaving the house helps:) And a broken charging lead on my laptop helps the NSDs too. Oh, and £0 balance in bank account soon stops the spending.
Today I have my counselling session 35 miles away. It is eating up the petrol and the £s but needs to be done.
And now i know my laptop is completely dead for no apparent reason. I borrowed another charger but it still won't start up. Time to think creatively as I have photos to send for an advertising deadline.
Knit and natter afterwards will cost me £1. It is worth the money as I enjoy the company.:D
I have finished painting my window frame. It has taken weeks but it is now ready for glueing together. It could go horribly wrong...........:rotfl:
Last nights dinner was very frugal and tonight's will be too.
