Strange that, I opened mine by post at Swindon. Maybe it depends on who you speak to, the luck of the draw.

Leicester branch have been very accomodating - turned round my application in 3 days.
  • do you have to go in branch to make the monthly deposits or can you pay by BACS/direct debit? thanks in advance.

Set up a SO directly from your current account. No need to go into the branch.

I just went to my local branch (Handsworth in Birmingham) and they opened my account OK for me, but didn't have any information leaflets to tell me the t's and c's of the account I was opening! They told me I had to come back another time for that!

I asked them if I could phone them up in a few days and ask them to post a leaflet out to me and they said I could phone up and ask, and maybe they would be able to post it out to me!

Thanks all, especially to Mary for providing the details of how to pay by BACS or standing order. I was expecting those details to be in the passbook somewhere, but I can't see them!

Got my passbook - opened 2 days ago - in this morning's post from Blackheath branch and cheque has come out today also. Sent my forms off Saturday week so I think that is due to postal delays going out.

I received my passbook through the post last Saturday. I applied ages ago, but I because of the postal strike it had been delayed. I'm glad that the account wasn't withdrawn during that time.

This is all I've ever seen on their website (and is still there today):

Because its advertised as a branch based account, I don't think it's being featured too heavily on their site.

Just rang a branch who indicated as I was an existing memeber they could simply mail me the forms for signature, so it is clearly still going.
