I am absolutely appalled at some of the stories here. I had considered John Lewis to be one of the most reputable of high street retailers, but after reading this I am left wondering.
It certainly seems to be flying head first against consumer law and it needs it's knuckles wrapping for this - some who's affected should contact Consumer Direct and/or Watchdog/local press.0 -
considering that this has been offer a number of times from jl, and there have not been any complaints posted previously i would think that possibly that some of you have been unlucky. with the problem turntable with any microwave you do have to make sure that it is 'slotted in properly for it to work ...0

Unfortunately bad news here too. Tried mine today and it makes an horrendous noise - must be faulty  Similar bad experience with JL CS as above - must admit I expected better from JL.
Shame it's faulty 'cos it looks good and seemed a great buy :rolleyes:0 -
Did anyone recieve theirs in a second outer box other than the Panasonic box? - I ask because when I complained, the person I spoke to said it should have been packed in a second "Transit box" and agreed with me that the stadard box was not suitable for courier transit. The Panasonic box is fine for transportation via pallets or careful transportation, but the courier appears to be throwing these around - hardly surprising as they are packed in a plasic bag which gives no indication of being fragile, or more importantly indicates which way up the box should be kept - the Panasonic box has arrows showing it should be kept upright - the courier was swinging mine on it's side as it was delivered - it's hardly surprising that the items are damaged or fail soon after first use. I must try mine as I havent even switched it on yet.
My local John Lewis resembles a boot sale with all the damaged goods returned from John Lewis .com - This company is a shambles and the best thing that John Lewis could do is dissassociate itself with them. They are not John Lewis Partners and in my view offer very poor customer service - this is my third attempt at purchasing form them and this was my best experience - the other two items didn't even turn up.0 -

 I did read an online review where someone else said they had a problem with the turntable on this model, can't find the link now but will post it if I find it again. As mine also seemed to be overheating, John Lewis have agreed to refund me the cost and are picking it up next week. I have to wait in all day for the courier but at least it isn't costing anything to send it back. I have bought one from Comet instead, still a Panasonic but a different model, the turntable is fine and it's a much better machine although it was more expensive. As others have said, I think the problems may have been caused by poor packaging and the way these have been handled by the courier.0 -
should i check mine then, this is not all a wind up is it,so many people having problems surely we all cant have faulty machines whats the point in selling them if they was and would the way they was packed really make a difference as most microwaves come in those sort of boxes when you buy them anywhere else.
I was hoping to leave them the way they was till xmas as they are gifts but then i might have a problem also, and would be just a waste of money if i keep them that long and find out they are not working i suppose i can pack them back up and be ok,if i find them ok.
But what if they start to have a fault when they are given as a gift at xmas that so long away,i can be using them till then as they are gifts.
What should i do here, these where offered before from john lewis was the last batch they sold the same as these.Treat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.0 -

it seems that it is this batch of microwaves since i know that it has been sold at least 3 times prior to this lot and ive not read of any problems. i think it would be wise to check your machines since it does appear people are having problems this time round.0 -
the turntable on mine is making a terrible noise, sounds like it's about to self destruct, the box etc were perfect with no sign of damage.
I have just made sure the oven is level , it seems to have cured the problem with noise, the legs aren't adjustable , so you need to put a sliver of something under one or both. watch you don't block the air vents underneath though.0 -
Not saying anyone has done this but just a general warning, Microwaves that are combi grills come with a metal rack for use when Grilling. This should never be in the microwavewhen you are using it as a microwave, as this will cause it to spark and maybe blow up!
P.S When complaining about a refund try saying that the purchase of a new more expensive one from them is a loss arising naturally from their breach of the contract (supplying faulty goods not fit for the purpose). You accept the refund towards the cost of a new one because you are mitigating your loss but due to their breach you are being asked to pay an extra XX pounds which they should be responsible for as it is part of your loss0 -

I was surprised when the instructions with this one stated that you could use the metal rack when using it in combi (ie microwave and grilling) mode - I like you thought that microwaves and metal did not mix.0
