I stuck with this practice when it went private because I had an amazing dentist here, though he's now left. I had a good NHS dentist too... he went back to Australia. I have this effect on good dentists.
Shame, as I think the new one is probably good too... if I decide to go on affording him.
Little to report today as I had a long shift (to be followed by two more long shifts). However I rallied enough to get some housework done this evening, the CC application is in the post and I have the cheque to pay the estate the overpaid electricity bill.
Spends:
Housekeeping 10.35
MS stuff:
Wombled 4p
10th coin savings £1.02
10th coin savings pot is now over £5! I'm going to transfer a fiver to my savings and the £5 cash goes back into my purse for spending rather than take another fiver out of the bank. That 10th coin savings has just paid me the same as the bank pays me in interest in a year and 8 months!! And the book was right - I haven't missed it. I started around the end of April so maybe three weeks. An odd idea that works so far. (Mind you the interest rate on that account is rubbish, hence plans to get a higher rate savings account).

Interesting... as the ISA hasn't been paid into for over a year, I can't add to it without reactivating it. I suppose that makes sense really. I'm keeping the fiver and going to add more '10th coins' to it with the hope of adding them to the either the new savings account once I'm eligible for it, or some other form of savings.
Not tonight though. I need sleep!I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

I'm in the doldrums today, partly because I'm short of sleep. A visit to the doctor reveals my medication levels are where they should be so the strange tiredness remains strange. We went through possible other causes and I'm starting on iron (oh joy - for those who've been there before
). If that doesn't work we'll review it in a few months.
Financial mistake made, though not a major one. I have free prescriptions but decided to buy the iron over the counter as the doctor said it's very cheap. It turned out to be nearly as much as a prescription! So there's a few pounds wasted because I wanted to sae the NHS some money - and of course I got it wrong: the prescription charge would have helped the NHS's coffers. I'm putting that one down to experience.
I did a little self-prescribing and got myself some cod liver oil and some chocolate. I know how to make myself feel better!

So has my thread become 'The one where dentists get murdered'?!
Doldrums continued on and off today - I'm so tired. The week when I do a lot of earlies always has this effect. I did suggest to management that it wasn't the best for me but it doesn't seem to have translated into action. I wonder sometimes if I should reduce my hours - but part of the benefit of being at work is that it's better for my mental health, and of course it's more income to 'play' with, by which I mean try to catch up for the years when I wasn't earning.
I did manage a bit of cleaning and tidying and in the process found about £6 of change which DH had shed - on the bedroom windowsill, under furniture, in pockets... tipped it into the change jar, totalled that up (£10.10) and took a bagful to the supermarket. I've traded it for bread, cream, cucumber, eggs and margarine. It was fun lifting the lid on the coins slot at the self-service till and tipping it in! It messes up sums for housekeeping but I can live with that.I might even get some baking done this weekend.
I've also finished 'The Richest Man in Babylon'. I wouldn't recommend it if you like well-written books as it's a pretty ghastly and unrealistic attempt to make modern American writing appear antiquated (I studied quite a few very old manuscripts for my degree so this jarred with me), but there are some interesting ideas there. Might skim through again and make a few notes.
Spends:
Pets £0.50
Housekeeping £3.59
MS stuff:
Wombled 8p
Put some of DH's change back into circulation
Noticed my CC has given me 55p in loyalty points for some purchases.
Bought cheaper bread which also has fewer calories - I'm rather addicted to nice grainy bread but I can save 30p and 272 kcal per loaf by being less indulgent.
Confession time:
I notice I am regularly making cappuccino, eating a chocolate biscuit and having a nap after early shifts. It doesn't quite make up for the tiredness but I feel better for it!I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

P.S. to the above. I have paid the change jar back out of the housekeeping budget and put the results into the 10th coin savings. Seems fair enough - in the savings account I'm trying to get, that would earn me 20p more a year. What shall I spend it on? :rotfl:I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
