Day off! And a good night's sleep.
I decided against going out for lunch etc as the weather was foul early on, but now I need to motivate myself to have some sort of positive impact on my environment. Almost every single bit of it needs attention!
The weather is now glorious, at least from indoors: blue sky and bright sunshine, though windy. That means no excuse but to do the laundry, or at least some of it. I will feel some sense of accomplishment once it's on the line.
Work has one of those boxes of things that people might just want to buy: every now and then there is something there that I wouldn't have thought I needed but because it's there I decide I want it.
You guessed it.
So that's £10 spent already.
I have managed a few more items for the charity shop bag but haven't taken any of them out of the house: I need to add that to my list.
Work-wise, I picked up a couple more overnight shifts which will be a bit of extra cash, possibly to go off the mortgage. I must remember to revisit it in a few days as there are one or two more I could take if a colleague doesn't. She is off sick and I think she needs them more than I do so I might text her to check. I can't do more before Monday.
I may pop back to update if I need to motivate myself - see you later!I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

I'm another book lover, got two shelves of books to read, trying to get it down to one shelf but keep getting more books passed on to me by work colleague, oh what a shame :rotfl:
Just looking through recent posts for any decluttering info and I noticed this intriguing thought... all books to read together in one place! This is so far from my situation (two kindles, top of the piano, dining room bookshelf, dining room floor (:o), lounge bookshelf, bedroom, dining table... that I completely missed it.
Being fair to myself, the pile on the dining room floor is small, there's no room on a bookshelf to put them together and they gathered there when I rounded them up from sundry places. The pile of borrowed books is on the piano and started as a place to keep borrowed travel books - not all of which have found their way back to their owners yet.
I think I need to take a holiday just to read - preferrably without internet access so I can't be tempted by great bargains online.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Still searching for any evidence of decluttering (I'm sure there was something), I looked up the above and found an article. So I'd better make sure my family has my login.I will point out that I have vouchers registered to that account too - you never know, it may succeed in widening their reading habits when they retire.

That's an interesting point. We share an account in this house, so the books are effectively shared but no one likes the same things sadly. My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

It's good to pick up an extra shift or two
.
Organising books, now that's a job that would take me a long time in this house. It would be an enjoyable task though. A books to be read shelf would be useful so that you know where to look when you want to start a new book.
I'm glad DS managed to finish his dissertation, much relief all around I'm sure.

Yes, I'm glad of the shifts. There are some ordinary shifts going begging as well but I'm not sure about these as I don't want to take on too much. I've secured a couple for the colleague who's sick, which benefits me too because then I won't feel guilty if I take any others.
I'm glad about the finished dissertation too, but I don't think it was one of his stronger pieces of work. At least it's in though and he can go back to his placements (he had to miss a couple of days to get it finished and had already missed quite a bit as he had a spate of migraines).
I didn't manage to get the house completely showroom standard (ahem!) but the laundry is done (just airing around the house, should be dry by morning), some bits are all shiny and nice again, I've paid my credit card up to date and I bought the weekend food and some for next week. This last has put me over budget by about £8.I'll try to get by on £8 less next week to make it right (back to the lentil soup). It would have been more but I did a bit of creative accounting by slipping silicone free polish and a wardrobe dehumidifier into the household budget, where they don't belong (unless you're DH, who thinks food money is for food and doesn't include cleaning, but I blame myself for this as I talk about it as 'food money').
Spending:
Household £13.49
Clothing £4.00
Housekeeping £20.82
Toiletries £2.99
MS:
Needed to replace a piece of clothing and found the right item for £4 instead of at least double that at the supermarket.
10th coin savings 55p
Completely forgot the ingredient I originally went to buy so no baking done but never mind.
Decluttering:
Four more items including stuff off the notice board and a catalogue.
And I'm happy about DH's visit to DFiL went well: DFiL is now off barrier nursing and the staff have taken him to the dining room so he's not so isolated. While very overworked, the staff are so caring.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

sounds like you had a wonderful time though.
Glad FIL is doing better too.
Still catching up so I'll be back with more to say no doubt
Take care

Quite a quiet day today, though decidedly not warm. I read about others having snow this morning and this evening it suddenly hit us with gusty wind and hard snow - then it was gone. Strange.
Nothing spent today though it could portend some expensive days as our carpet shampooer/vacuum cleaner is behaving very oddly and I think I've overstrained the motor of the electric whisk. However these are first world problems and at least we have a fairly clean carpet. The butter I was trying to make with leftover cream just didn't work, however, so I've made it into a pint of custard. (I've made butter before but never had this happen - maybe a pint of single cream is just too big an ask?
Decluttering has gone quite well: I've put the full results on the decluttering thread but the two baby blankets have now left for their future owners and various papers and cardboard boxes have gone to be recycled. I came across a crochet idea last night which I just loved so I might end up 'having' to buy a mega-chunky crochet hook... the idea is instead of sending old sheeting or duvet covers to textile recycling, they are cut into inch-wide strips and crocheted into baskets. I've seen photos and they can look very good - and it slows the process of their going to landfill and creating microfibre pollution from artificial fibres. I happen to have some old sheets at Mum's in nice colours but which I can't see anyone using so I might have a play around with the idea. Not something I could do on the train, though!
I have also finished mending some seam splits on the sofa cushions. I don't know if it counts as money saving, as we'll still need to replace the sofas eventually, but at least it looks better.
Work again tomorrow, so I need to get to bed quite soon.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Ah, books will be almost the last to go!
Another day at work today - got quite a lot done including cleaning the goldfish. However, as so often after an early, I fell asleep when I got back home and was going to have a lazy evening. However, a bunch of colleagues are on line discussing the homework for a course so I'm going to ditch my plans and join in - they're all struggling with it and have done more than I have, so it stands to reason I need to grab any advantage I can!
Only a bit of shopping today: I have paid for DD's items from the work books and random stuff box but she'll pay me back so I don't count that. I was enormously tempted to start a new crochet item but our local shops don't have the size of hook that I need so I haven't bought anything. I think that will change tomorrow, unless I go on line and buy a hook tonight. I could use a birthday voucher if it's on @mazon.
Spent:
Housekeeping £2.69
MS:
Wombled 7p
It was lentil soup again today; there's a spare portion for the freezer.
10th coin savings 50p
Decluttering:
A bottle of sunflower oil that's been hanging around in the kitchen is finally finished
An old mobile of Mum's has gone to a new home complete with charger and spare battery
A rusty bird feeder (mesh is rusty, not birds)
And I'm thankful for cat naps, haivng the heating on, blue sky again, smoked almonds.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
