  • I read once that the ideal way to decorate is to put up more bookshelves - that's perfectly okay by me!

I agree, who needs wallpaper :rotfl:.

Happy birthday Cherry :bdaycake: I hope you're having a lovely day :).

Thanks HH - I've had fun!

Not an NSD but the food spend for the evening with family came under 'entertaining', and so did lunch out and my cake - but DH paid for those last two.

We decided to visit a garden centre that I'd been told about - there wasn't a great deal there but it was out of season and what there was, was interesting. Some lovely mini water gardens in all different styles and beautiful koi carp which we watched for quite a while. It reminded me strongly of Singapore, which I loved. No, I didn't buy any fish, just a plant! We also had lunch there, and went back to the tea room for coffee and cake later, encountering what DH called the 'vocal locals'. We ended up knowing all sorts about the lives of people we will probably never meet again. It wasn't really what we expected to do with an afternoon off but that's how it goes. I think if we visit again it will be on a busy day when they will be otherwise engaged.

Having the family round was good: we ate a lot of pizza and salad, topped off with a carrot cake made by DH: I am still full hours later. I opened my presents and we had a silly game of cards but packed up a bit early as people had to be up for work tomorrow, and J was just back from her flight.
    Spending:
    Garden: £4.23
    Entertainment £14.17
    Housekeeping £1.66
    DH paid the other items.
    MS:
Some pasta, French dressing, salad bits and pieces and bulgar wheat left over for other meals.
Some peppers I bought turned out to be damaged but I needed them for the recipe so I photographed them and trimmed those bits before using the rest. I might be able to get some money back as they definitely weren't right but as they were pre-wrapped it wasn't clear at point of sale.
    Decluttering:
An offer for holiday discount that's been sitting on the side in the bedroom
Yet another mug that developed a crack
A headphone holder that everyone denies owning.

It's one of those days off that doesn't seem to be getting anywhere. DH has a bad cold but has gone into work. He rang me to say his Dad is going to be barrier nursed for a further week, which is miserable as we thought he'd be back to normal today and of course it means longer in the care home and more time without the physio he needs to get back on his feet. However the physio is going to try and make him last on her list so she can see him after other patients and start a regime.

Talking of physio I got my act together enough to do some recently. At first I got complaints from the scar but now it seems to be easing in, so I guess I need to keep it up indefinitely to get full benefit.

I was supposed to be visiting DFiL but J is going instead and I'm rather relieved: I'm just having a day of putting everything off and not much getting done. I have done some laundry though so there's something to show for it. Now on with the rest of my list, and, money-wise, a bit of grocery shopping.

  • I think your birthday sounded a really nice day :). I love DH's phrase the vocal locals :rotfl:.

I hope FIL is well enough to go home soon but at least he's getting the care he needed.

I sat down with a DVD and got rather engrossed in it, and ended up feeling a lot better: whizzed round doing housework then got a couple of items from Mr T before heading over to my friend's where I had a pancake. :)

    Spending:
    Housekeeping £2.60
    MS:
Mr T gave me another pack of peppers to make up for the squishy ones.
    10th coin savings 20p
    Decluttering:
    Nothing I can think of.
And I'm grateful for J going to visit her Grandfather, pancake day, getting some handwashing out of the way and... daffodils.

Oh so tired! Pretty good day all told though: housework done, did some shopping for DFiL and popped in to see him, got some shopping for us, back in time for a snack then out to a retirement 'do', which went very well.
    Spending:
    Entertainment (meal out) £12.00
Shopping for DFiL (to reclaim) £17.85
    Gifts £5.80
    Housekeeping £10.45
    Medical £3.50
    Stationery £1.50
    MS:
    Wombled 1p
    10th coin savings 20p
noticed I'd accidentally been charged for something someone else had left on the counter, so got a £3 refund.
And I'm thankful for great colleagues, blue sky and gentle rain.

Having fallen asleep after work today (I actually went back to bed just after 4pm!) I am woozy but less tired now. I think I'll get to bed relatively early again tonight as tomorrow is another early start. DH is taking tomorrow afternoon off but only because he has to give up part of his Saturday to deal with a work matter.

None of us managed to visit DFiL today but I know he is cared for and we can be contacted if need be.

Shopping was eggs, sausages, fruit and milk: toad in the hole is such a good meal!

DS2 could well be headed for an all-nighter in an effort to finish his dissertation. I hope not, because I don't want him to drive on no sleep but I know I finished an assessed degree essay during the night and wrote it's companion straight out over the rest of the night, got them both in by the deadline and lived to tell the tale. Oddly, I got firsts for both - something I haven't managed before or since :D.

    Spending:
    Housekeeping £6.75
    MS:
    10th coin savings 20p
    £2 coin for the jar
No decluttering but I'm grateful for rest in a quiet house. :)

Aw thanks - I was so stunned that the impact is still with me! :D I'm a Jill of all trades but mistress of none - and to be fair I based the second essay on an entire term's course that I'd taken earlier, and just looked at it from another angle, so it wasn't some fantastic feat of lightening-speed research. :D

Another quiet day. That's what happens when I'm on an early shift - once again I went back to bed this afternoon, to be woken by DH talking to DS2 - the dissertation is completed and sent off.

Nothing spent today but an unexpected bit of earning as a colleague is off sick and so I offered to do her sleep in shift tonight. It will mean another early start but never mind - it's a weekend off which means I don't have much planned. DH has a work meeting in another town and has offered to take me over there and get lunch after the meeting finishes but the forecast is miserable so I'm not sure. If it were July, now, it could be really nice.

    Spent: nothing
    MS: Sleep in shift tonight
    No decluttering
    And I'm thankful for
the extra shift, chance to go on the work computer to put my pay claim in and book annual leave, hot chocolate before I go.
