No, I think most people wouldn't, particularly if it's in a residential area.

You would overtake, I absolutely guarantee it, I have never seen any driver not overtake someone doing 25mph, given the chance.

It's easy to post words on a forum, 25 doesn't seem all that slow in words, but when your out driving and stuck behind someone doing 25mph, it feels like they're doing 10.

Why would you be "stuck" behind them. Driving between 25 and 30 in a 30 zone is hardly going to be holding anyone up. Don't judge us by your own poor driving standards.

The moneysaving solution is simply to give up your job, then your earnings are zero :D

However they do in that case have a "fall back" figure, which I believe is £110 a week, and that works out less than the fixed penalty ;)

    But there's a £30 victim surcharge and £85 costs ....

I'm calling BS on this, you can't slap drivers with fines at 1mph over the speed limit, there's a valid reason why there was a 10% rule.
No reputable sources are showing those numbers.......

Let's not forget this is Saga, known for ensuring elderly and Peugeot drivers, who think that anyone doing more than 15mph under the limit is a "maniac".

    Reputable source https://www.sentencingcouncil.org.uk/offences/item/speeding-revised-2017/

These are sentencing guidelines. The decision to prosecute is taken elsewhere.

Saga advice about driving too slowly http://www.saga.co.uk/magazine/motoring/cars/using/why-driving-too-slowly-is-dangerous.

Did you think anyone doing more than 15mph under the limit was a "maniac" when you owned a Peugeot?

Probably a similar reason why the drink drive limit is 35 but prosecution starts at 40. 40-49 used to be blood but now that's gone. It was all down to accuracy of the machine, once they are happy with enforcement equipment there's no reason why it won't start at 31.
  • The 10% + 2 advice is down to the fact that speedometers in vehicles cannot read lower than the speed the vehicle is travelling but can be out by up to 10% upwards. That is why when you check your speed on a GPS device it generally reads less than your indicated speed on your speedo.

The inflated fines will also only apply to those that attend court, fixed penalty tickets will remain at £100 and 3 points although the driver does have the option to attend court if they believe it is incorrect.

Yes, I forgot those. :o A £100 fixed penalty would be cheaper than £115 plus half of £110......(£170)

Still a good idea if you are facing a band C fine though ;)

Not for someone who doesn't understand that a speed limit is the maximum speed you can go at on a road, and isn't the speed at which you have to drive at.... :D

Obviously driving at 20mph in a 40mph limit road is slow, or those tentative drivers who try to join a motorway with a 60mph+ speed limit and they're doing 35mph-40mph are dangerous, but 25mph in a 30mph zone? Maybe a wee bit frustrating if you are sitting behind them, but overtake them, and on the advice of a driving instructor, yeah right!

Or they're overtaking the tool in front who's doing 25 in a 30.

If you find somewhere safe to pass in a 30 zone and are so impatient you can't wait a couple of minutes then sure, do 30. If you do 33 or 35 to get around them and get pulled, you've only yourself to blame, impatience isn't a valid defence for speeding. What if the person is slowing to turn or lost and suddenly speeds up because they didn't notice the guy trying to pass them? I've been stuck behind the stereotype flat cap old man in a rover doing 40 in a 60 before, nowhere was it safe to try and get around them on 2 lane roads so I suck it up and go slowly.

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
