  • My son has a learning disability (Down's Syndrome). He is unlikely to ever be able to go out on his own, and cannot plan a journey or follow a journey without help. He also has little road sense and does not understand that just because someone looks a bit like Grandad, thatn someone is still a stranger.

At almost 19, I am still trying to teach him how to cross the road safely. He will wait patiently for the 'green man' and cross only then, but most roads don't have pedestrian crossings. I am also constantly working on the 'stranger danger' aspect. His special school also support me in this ongoing teaching.

Whist I appreciate that some people may have overwhelming psychological distress, they may improve with treatment and care (and I know that treatment isn't always readily available, but that's not the topic being discussed). My son is unlikely to ever improve to a standard that he can make a journey unaccompanied. That's without taking in to account his wheelchair, which he has to use for all but the shortest of journeys due to hypermobility (causing intense pain) and breathing difficulties.
  • Please get your facts straight.
I have no intention of reiterating what I have previously said

No you never answer questions that are directed to you.

Even two ex Prime Ministers claimed DLA for their children - they certainly didn't want or need the extra money!

    Just like you then eh.

In an earlier post you asked for people to not feed the Troll......

I always answer a legitimate question. I do not answer or reply to posts that are inappropriate.
Yes, I too am in that position and there must be many more claimants in a similar situation that are maybe too frightened to 'come out'.

People seem to think that DLA or PIP is tested on the basis of needing extra money. It is not. There is nothing in the regulations that stipulate that only those that have extra costs will/should get an award.
I know of one elderly lady who has no extra costs and saves her £85 a week Attendance Allowance and uses it to have two cruises a year (winter & summer) at a cost of approx. £2000 each.
Is she wrong in doing that if it makes her happy?

Luckily it won't affect me, but shame it's going to affect other people with MH problems.
There are to be no changes to the rules.
Everybody should be tested according to the same PIP regulations that existed in 2013
You can't have people tested pre 2017 under one rule and those tested post 2017 under a different rule, that would be unfair and wrong.

    a) and b) are very unlikely to ever be in a position to get better, c) is. The government believes that too many of the c) accept that their disability is permanent and expect benefit to support them indefinitely, hence the changes.

BIB Do you have a link where the Government says this ?

Your is it just your wishful thinking.

Because now becomes forever. At which point do you say that now is not now any longer? If you are reassessed after 3 years and the situation has not changed, then what would be the criteria to say that you are now not eligible any longer unless you change the rules, which is what they are doing.

It's not very hard to deduct possible reasons. Maybe there are others.

    e. Cannot undertake any journey because it would cause overwhelming psychological distress to the claimant. 10 points.

Well that's Agoraphobics covered then :D

Yep, Tory Ideology. Disabled people are considered to be getting "something for nothing", and the Tories are intent on "ending the something for nothing culture".
