Very interesting indeed. I'm glad I don't really like fruit juice. And I much prefer veg to fruit, so I'm pleased it's doing me more good.
Having said that I had a rhubarb and apple juice yesterday to try and up my quota while out of the house. Veg in transit (aside from salad) seems much harder to achieve than fruit. So I had a salad for lunch, with olives, then carrots and hummus. Shamefully I can't remember what happened for dinner - I was so tired I was in bed by nine.
Today was breakfast with mushrooms and beans. Lunch included sweetcorn, gherkins, a banana and a fruit and nut bar. Dinner was a salad. I'd call today at a seven.
I'm in all day tomorrow, so I think there could be a big veggie frittata.0 -

It is. It echoes what I said earlier, that out of the 10 a day talked about in this thread, only 2/3 portions should be fruit. The majority should be vegetables.
Dried fruits and fruit juice don't count as they are all sugar.
Pulses are also classed as proteins and whilst they are nutrient dense, they don't count towards 10 a day.0 -

Spinach quiche and salad 3

Thanks Old tractor. I eat a lot of mushroomy things- stroganoff is nice too.
Here's the mushroom ragu recipe just in case you're tempted. It also goes well with brown rice. And any mushrooms would do.
1 tbsp olive oil
2 onions, finely diced
3 garlic cloves, crushed
2 celery stalks, finely diced
400g chestnut mushrooms
400g forester mushrooms
100ml (3 1/2fl oz) dry sherry
small bunch of thyme
1 tbsp tomato purée
200ml (7fl oz) vegetable stock
2 tbsp butter
Soften the onions, garlic and celery in a little oil. When the onions have become translucent, turn up the heat and add the mushrooms and fry until they are golden. Add the sherry, scraping up any sediment at the bottom of the saucepan. Stir until the sherry has nearly cooked off, then add the remaining ingredients. Cook for 30 mins until the mushrooms have softened entirely and the sauce is thick.
Lunch was avocado with prawns and a large mixed salad 4
Berry jelly 2
Apple for this afternoon 1
Dinner will be mushroom rissoles with roast potatoes, cabbage, carrots and some of last nights ragu as a sauce - 3.
So that's around 11 for me.

Today was pretty good.
Breakfast: redcurrants, blackcurrants, blackberries, raspberries, banana with museli and yoghurt
Lunch: Chicken with roast parsnips, carrots, red peppers, and a stir fry of broccoli with chili and lemon juice
Dinner: Soup with potato, onion, carrot, parsley, mushrooms, watercress and lemon
I reckon that's a ten.0 -
Just read that Telegraph article. Yes, interesting.
But what's this about canned and frozen fruits increasing your risk of dying by 17% ?
IS that what I read, or was it a misread?
Managed nine today. Still time for a tenth - maybe I'll crunch some celery later!
Breakfast: corn flakes, raisins, apple.
Lunch: peanut butter and banana sandwich with an extra handful of peanuts, plus an orange.
Tea: Mrs McCartney veggie sausages, sweet corn, peas, carrots, onions. Rice pudding and tinned peach slices.
Not so good, in that five are fruits. Oh well, onwards and upwards!Keeping two cats and myself on a small budget, and enjoying life while we're at it!0 -
Forgot - I also had a small bowl of sliced beetroot as a snack this afternoon - the sort that comes in a jar in vinegar - yum! So I have made it to ten!Keeping two cats and myself on a small budget, and enjoying life while we're at it!0

Grapefruit and tomatoes and eggs for breakfast -2
Cauliflower cheese and green beans - 2
Berry jelly - 2
Kiwi fruit snack - 1
Dinner will be Giant prawns cooked with tomatoes and onions with saute potatoes and broccoli - 3
That's about 10 for today
Can't remember if orange juice counts as I had a glass of the concentrate kind.
Sounds like my kind of snack Winchelsea - I often have a few gherkins as I have quite a sour tooth.
The next couple of day should be pretty veg full to - so I'm not doing to bad.0
