I asked a question a little while ago about removing a stupid space wasting liked videos link that appeared on youtube.
Several options were mentioned and one of them was uBlock, silly me should have looked at it sooner. WOW.
Previously i used Adblock Plus and NoScript to strip away all the rubbish, the ebay collections and recommended stuff went in the blocked folder very very quickly..
Some items like the liked link and its box that appeared were slightly harder to remove. Tried uBlock tonight and without even reading any instructions or help pages i managed to block that and even remove some of the other menu items with just a few clicks.
Big thanks to whoever mentioned uBlock. Any negatives to it?

I switched years ago. Much lighter memory footprint too.
Just make sure you have unlock origin and not plain unblock. Like a lot of open source projects the development split after a disagreement. Origin is maintained by the original author and remains true to its intended purpose - blocking bad stuff, not just ads (which often spread malware), and doing so efficiently without blackmailing advertisers (I.e. Adblock pay us and we let your ads through).0 -
Nobody ever mentions Disconnect. I find it as good as, or better than, either Adblock or uBlock.0

From their site:Does Disconnect Premium block all ads? Is it an adblocker? ↑
No. Rather than block all advertisements, we only block the privacy-invasive ads that invisibly track you and may be responsible for distributing malware (malvertising) and other security threats. We also generally unblock ad tracking websites that commit to respect users’ Do Not Track (DNT) preferences and agree to comply with DNT as defined by the Electronic Frontier Foundation
I've been using UBO for some time and find it far better than Adblock+.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

Nevertheless... I'm currently using it on Opera and Vivaldi (and have used it with Chrome and Firefox too) and I just don't see ads. And believe me, I'm fussy. The other thing is that it's completely invisible - no nags, no pop-ups, no visible updates, no detectable impact on anything - ever. It just works. It also blocks trackers, so no need to use Ghostery or similar in addition to a blocker.
I used to use uBlock+Disconnect (thinking that Disconnect was just for trackers), then realised that disabling uBlock made no difference so long as Disconnect was running.0 -
I just switched from AdBlock Plus to uBlock Origin, and... yes... it doesn't seem to slow down Firefox/Chrome as much as ABP. It also seems to have a bigger selection of blocklists available by default.
I'm not totally wild about the UI, but otherwise I really like it.0 -

Fine if you prefer something else, but it's not better, just different.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

It might have been me - I remember your thread. And none so far that I've noticed.0
