Any of you looked at, or run, a raspberry pi “pi hole”?

I have several Pi's but routing all my data through one and it would probably catch fire.

But i dont want to block every advert on every device. I need to see what adverts some websites are showing. Thats why i have versions of Chrome and Opera that do not block any adverts.

It might have been me - I remember your thread. And none so far that I've noticed.

    You certainly did, Thanks.

I struggled with adblock and just blocking the like video bit.

Ublock also managed to block the ebay collections junk with a couple of clicks where adblock also required a bit of help from noscript to remove them.

    Thanks.

Isn't that what this whole thread is about? I'm just pointing out that uBlock and Adblock are not the only options, despite being the ones that always feature in these discussions.
It is and you did, however you claimed it was " as good as, or better than, either Adblock or uBlock".
I just said, it wasn't better just different. I wasn't belittling your choice or recommendation. Apologies if it came over like that...;)
I've used it alongside UBO with no problems and tried each separately. However, as I use Firefox with UBO I find I don't need disconnect. Privacy badger is another of the same ilk along with Ghostery.
    Each to their own....:)

I switched years ago. Much lighter memory footprint too.
Just make sure you have unlock origin and not plain unblock. Like a lot of open source projects the development split after a disagreement. Origin is maintained by the original author and remains true to its intended purpose - blocking bad stuff, not just ads (which often spread malware), and doing so efficiently without blackmailing advertisers (I.e. Adblock pay us and we let your ads through).

Hey guys, thank you for letting me know. Yes it is lighter (i.e. more stable) than Adblock plus. Memory usages is significantly different.

By the way, I am using a free and opensource adblocker called Adaway, which helps ad-free my quiet mobile life. Please try this if you are interested.

A couple of weeks ago, Firefox was freezing every few seconds and saying (Not Responding) in the title bar. At first, I thought it was caused by other things because when I turned off "Use hardware acceleration" the freeze seemed to stop, but then the problem later return. Eventually, I found that the problem was caused by Adblock Plus. Since I turned it off, Firefox doesn't freeze.

AdBlock Plus didn't use to freeze. So could the reason for this be that over time it adds more data that causes it to freeze? Because ABP records how many ads it has actually blocked.

I get Firefox not responding with Youtube videos sometimes.

Sometimes it goes days and days, the other day a 2h LAN Show crashed 7 times. (watching not streaming)

I just switched from AdBlock Plus to uBlock Origin, and... yes... it doesn't seem to slow down Firefox/Chrome as much as ABP. It also seems to have a bigger selection of blocklists available by default.

I'm not totally wild about the UI, but otherwise I really like it.

I have just tried to apply for a new 0% interest balance transfer card via the eligibility checker and come up with a number of 100% pre approved offers. When I have clicked on APPLY for the one i had chosen, it comes up with
uBlock Origin has prevented the following page from loading:

what is this and how to get rid and proceed with application?

Any and all suggestions very welcome

    Temporarily turn it off?
Allow the target site in the Whitelist in uBlock?
  • If you click the Ublock Origin icon on your browser bar you can then click the on/off symbol to switch it off for the duration of you session. Switch it back on when finished.

What is the actual website your trying to access?

If your following tracking links then that is probably why.
