Not really the definition I would understand - more an attempt to establish community affiliation , as in "What lovely children you have. What are their names?", because I'm trying to work out what sort you are and I really need some help.“What means that trump?” Timon of Athens by William Shakespeare0 -

Heh! They'd have some real problems with my family there (atheists with Italian/Turkish names..) :rotfl:0 -
Mike Nesbitt has resigned as leader of the UUP"Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many"0

Well, not a lot changed, but there was at least change.
And if the UUP don't regress then progressive politics can have a chance with no auto POC to block majority decisions.0 -

I would say a lot has changed .Yes the DUP and Sinn Fein have top places again .
There are 18 less seats this time ,but the DUP and UUP lost 16 between them ,Sinn Fein lost 1.
If you look at the Four main parties
DUP & UUP got 38 between them .
SF & SDLP got 39 between them .
The Alliance had 8 seats in 2016 and still have 8 seats in 2017 .
The SDLP had 12 seats in 2016 and still have 12 seats in 2017 ,but now have more than the UUP.
Arlene got the SF and SDLP supporters voting .
What happened to the unionist voters ."Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many"0 -
Arlene foster was a deciding factor imho in that unionists voting for her had to hold their noses to do so in a lot of cases and nationalists were highly motivated to vote so they could vote against her. Have a feeling we might be waiting a while for the resignation though. It's the BBC. It's Sinn Fein. It's sexism ... or maybe it's just you arlene?0

Sinn Fein managed to increase 50k alone, which is awesome (in the non American version of the word), and the SDLP increased about 15k.
Nationalism under performed in 2016, it probably over performed in 2017, as I would expect voting numbers to reduce again in future elections. Though what do I know.
POC could still be used depending on who new UUP leader is, or if there are dissenters, but it may be that actual change could happen if the assembly functions. I don't hold out great hope of either. Hence my 'little has changed' standpoint. It's mostly symbolism.0 -
We all thought this election would be about unionism. It wasn't.
What changed from the two elections? Brexit and Arlene's antics.
Both contributed very heavily to the biggest nationalist turnout in two decades.
Arlene has been fundamental in galvanising and mobilising nationalism.
Fair play to her.0 -
This result is massive, I don't think the psychology effect this will have on the DUP and unionism in general can be understated. The unionist majority is no longer. The DUP POC is dead.
Just a few years ago nationalism was thought by some to be in terminal decline. Arlene is going, it's inevitable. Her arrogance has brought about the single biggest loss for unionism in the history of the place. She's galvanised the nationalist vote and IMHO brought us years closer to a boarder poll and the inevitable SF first minister in just a few years time. NI demographics were always going to see a nationalist majority. I didn't see it coming this year.
Great to see Nelson gone.
Pengelly won't be happy with her husband telling the DR. and nurses to keep quiet. South Belfast is full of them. I'm glad to see a candidate, dropped in from a 92k a year SPAD job plus severance pay losing her seat. Hopefully Alene doesn't make a ridiculous move and try to pop her back in as a SPAD. But sadly the DUP always look after their own, at the expense of unionist people.
Lord Morrow gone too. The person who nominated Arlene.
Good result for the SDLP. Good to see transfers between them and the UUP. Mike was ahead of his time. Good to see alliance doing well along with the greens.
Looks like we have a mixed assembly. Unionist, nationalist and others.
Truly massive result. No doubt about it. And all down to Arlene not stepping aside like Peter the developers friend Robinson did.
What have you done Arlene. WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!!0
