I kind of wondered at the time if it was the other way round...
With the troubles out of the way, people felt free to vote their prejudices to the full - hence the rise of the more extreme parties. Peace polarised the vote.

I assume you're kidding though? It's so important to vote. Young people especially - go out and vote! That's why pols ignore you and make policies that suit older people - because they vote.

What does everyone say to the ones who come round the doors canvassing? I've had two so far recently and I know virtually nothing about politics. They introduce themselves but then just stand there, waiting. I even embarrassed one of them by thinking he was from a completely different party.

Exactly, if you don't vote you have no grounds for complaining, at all

You make a good and valid point - but!
I would firstly vote on party policy then on the ability in my opinion for the candidates in order of preference who I feel would be able representatives.
In my area there are none that meet that criteria so what should I do?

They should have a box for 'None of the above'. Lots of people don't vote not because they're lazy. They just dislike all the parties.

Not a problem where I am. It's a mixed area so everyone ignores us :)

The should have another box for direct rule - politicians here are simply not up to the job.
