What's to think about, the driver admitted driving without due care and attention and the cyclist also got fined.

And for the record the driver hasn't been prosecuted, he was offered a driver awareness course.

What colour light did the cyclist jump?
Some cyclist just don’t pay respect to the road...I have aways said people should wear safely gear and if they do something wrong while cycling on the road they could be held accountable - police gave me a ticket for running an amber light - this maybe why I was hit I don’t know.

There's nothing in the article mentioning a red light at all, so why the sensationalist thread title?

We've not had a cyclists vs drivers argument for a while, sounds like this is what the OP's intentions are.

Would he have been fined for going through a green light?:D
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

It seems Charlie Austin has been. (Or equivalently-so anyway). ;)

It doesn't matter which colour - amber means the same as red. The actual charge would have been "failure to comply with a traffic sign" contrary to section 36 of the RTA 1988.

The cyclist was given a ticket for riding through an amber light.

If his light was amber, it seems unlikely that the motorist's was green.

What do you think about this one

I think that, judging by his early admission of responsibility, Mr Austin has learnt the hard way that "in the right" doesn't make a whole lot of difference when someone's under your wheels.

When lights change you may have the right of way, but you still need to be sure the opposing traffic has actually stopped before proceeding. Good for Austin for accepting his error and good outcome overall considering it could have been a whole lot worse.

Can you give a link to the legislation of failing to comply with an amber light?
