Not saying thank you for presents!

My goodness, don't some of you have a lot of presents to buy!
I don't write thank you notes, as there are only 7 people in my family and we all live in the same town as each other so at Christmas, we hand them over personally. Luckily, we all get on really well, and after reading this thread, glad I have a small family!!A cloudy day is no match for a sunny disposition~ William Arthur Ward ~0 -
I was brought up with sending a letter / card to everyone who sent me a birthday / christmas present / money. For people like my nan I didnt as they gave it to me in person and I said thank you then.
But if it was in the post, or passed through a relative then they always get a note. Something I still do now.
I still send the 'Dear Auntie, thank you for thinking of me on my birthday... (with an update of what Im up to these days)' and Im 20. My boyfriend thinks Im nuts! I also have a mental list of which relatives find hand written things personal, so they get a hand written note!Green and White Barmy Army!0 -
We work on the principle that if you see someone on the day and thank them then or on the phone, no note is necessary. However for anything in the post a note is expected. It can be a bit of a slog - we do 2-3 a day - but it's tough luck, it has to be done.
At Christmas, I get plain postcards and the kids decorate them with the Christmas cards, cut up, glitter, feathers, sequins etc and write their notes on those - it's good fun in between Christmas and New Year“the princess jumped from the tower & she learned that she could fly all along. she never needed those wings.”

I am so lucky comppared to some of you guys! my family consists of 8 people and 4 friends that i buy for! All of these people live within 4 miles of me and we all have cars! I speak to most of them everyday and a couple every week! It has always been like that! So i suppose that is why i was never made to write thank yous! The 8 of us spend xmas day and boxing day 2gether and I c the friends on xmas eve! We exchange presents in person, we always say thank you, we always prompt the children to say thank you even as young as1! We show genuine gratitude for the gift by not just throwing it down and moving on, but, getting it out and playing with it then and there! I am always very consious of being ungrateful i cant stand the thought! My OH is seriously lacking in the thank you area (well the whole communication area really) and that really annoys me! So I tell him and he usually corrects himself by paying them a visit shortly after and appologiseing! I am sure if there were people further away I wud instinctivly write a note or email/text! anyway I think i justified myself! thanks for putting up with me! lolol0

One of our friends never writes thank you letters. However, she is normally kind enough to give us (or another friend) the present back the following yearCan I help?0

I over-say Thank You, probably to the point of being annoying, but when someone goes to the effort of making me something/doing something/buying something, I always like to say thank you - it's the way I was brought up - even if I hate it, it's still thank you!
One of my best friends though... argh. She barely ever says thank you for anything and it drives me up the wall.0 -
Think that it's right what some of you have said about it being the parents fault about manners.
Just one trip into town can prove that many adults don't have any manners at all and then bring up their kids to have no manners either. Those of us who bring our kids up to have good manners just get walked all over it seems.now mum of 4!!!0 -
