They must be capping your speed as you should easily get 2MB less than a Km from the exchange. If they won't sort it leave them. Wrexham is AOL LLU enabled but Wrexham North is not, so if they have reduced your payments, they may well have capped your speed as well.

Yea that sound capped. I'm 1.27k from the exchange and I'm getting the full 2mb service 2272 down and 288 up. Untill I change up to 8mb I dont know what the line is capable of.

  • I would persevere with the BT Speedtest as it's shows actual throughput. Your upload stats 448 consistent with adsl max line, snr margin of 0 db very poor and I would expect problems with that. You need at least 6db to maintain stable line. Attenuation of 37 db ok, not too far from exchange to be a problem.

    Get some gorm.
  • just tried the recommended speedtest and got 297kbps...i`ll try again after midnight....aol silver 1mb is the package i`m on........is there any way of increasing the snr margin?

  • What is your snr margin immediately after you reboot your router? That will show what the default setting is and how much you've dropped.
On a fixed rate line snr margins of less than 10 db is going to cause problems and yours has dropped to 0.

You are on ADSL max but they are capping your speed at their end to give you 1Mb. Are you on Wrexham or Wrexham North? One is AOL LLU enabled and the other is not. Your noise margins are poor to non existent! Complain to AOL or leave them.
 Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:
  • I agree with espresso but there's something surely wrong somewhere for your margins to be so poor given your distance from exchange.
As I said above persevere with the bt test, that gives your profile and your dsl connection rate.
If it weren't for those poor stats I would have said its all AOLs fault given the complaints about speeds and "upgrades" but it's worth checking everything on your side to make sure any inherent problems don't follow you when you move to a decent ISP.;)

  • I`m on Wrexham exchange....just asked Aol for my mac code and i`m going to go to BT option 3...i figured if i go to them then they should sort the line out.........who`s reesponsible for the poor noise margins? The isp or bt who provide my line? And is there anything i can do to improve them?
