You need to complain to your ISP about your pathetic speeds and if necessary they will arrange for your line to be tested by BT. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

check your microfilters (they can go faulty)
Make sure you have one on EVERY phone line in the house that has something connected to it.. Even if you have a phone in a room that you rarely use, make sure it has a micro filter.
when you do that, switch the router off then on again.0 -
Remove the front of the BT NTE box and inside you will see an hidden Phone plug, plug your modem into that and see if speed is any better.0

I`ve got nothing at all plugged in to the socket only the modem and phone, its a brand new filter and we`re already plugged into the test socket....when i check my phone number on a speed check it says capable of 512k but next doors says 5mb!!A shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a man who does not exist.

That does not stack up with what you said in this post where BT measured 4Mb. Sounds like you need to complain to your ISP. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

Oh, at least you know what was wrong.
The c****s
Are you in contract now?
If not ask them for a free upgrade with no extended contract or leave.
Ask for your MAC.
There are plenty more fish (ISP's) out there even with monthly contracts.0 -
There is a petition at the moment to ask the government to force providers to be more honest about the broadband they are supplying

They must be capping your speed as you should easily get 2MB less than a Km from the exchange. If they won't sort it leave them. Wrexham is AOL LLU enabled but Wrexham North is not, so if they have reduced your payments, they may well have capped your speed as well.

Post results of http://speedtester.bt.com/ (may take a while, v busy) and post your router stats - http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/frogstats.htm attenuation, snr margin, sync speed.
