  • Hmm true, but this will show on his credit report which, when applying for our joint mortgage (I have one in my sole name currently) won't look great. I guess it's worth a shot of getting it removed, worst they can say is no, right!?

The only way this would get removed is as a gesture of good will. I'm not sure lowell know the meaning of good will!
  • Haha thanks! Although I am now on a mission to get this removed, il let you know :j

So the default was in July 2014 and it was settled in the same month?

Are you using a broker. Not sure how much a single default from over 2 years ago that was settled straight away will have, but surely better than an outstanding debt, or newer default, or CCJ.

A single default if his credit history is otherwise exemplary will not stop him getting a mortgage. DH had one from a joint account with his ex (long story but basically they both thought the account was closed as they went in and closed it, turned out the bank honoured a debit of some sort and then charges mounted as it was in negative balance but with no over draft and so on and on - both moved when they split and they didn't tell the bank as they thought account was closed etc) - anyway - we got a mortgage just fine once we settled the default as there were no other issues on his credit file. Go to a good independent broker.

Sorry to be so blunt but...you've got more chance of taking the money for the stamp to send the letter asking them to remove it, spending it on a lottery ticket and winning the lottery!

It sounds like it was correctly recorded and as above, an older default (provided his credit record since is fine) shouldn't be a major issue.
