O/S Daily Tuesday 14 February 2017
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark here, cold looks like we could have a touch of frost.
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work, DS2 still in his pit.
Dinner last night was an easy fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg. I remembered to get the lamb steaks out to defrost so they will be made into a lamb casserole in the slow cooker, I'll serve that with mash, veg and LO's from Sundays' roast - reasonably easy dinner.
Work yesterday was another busy day - not as busy as it has been the last few Mondays' but busy enough. We had beautiful blue sky and sunshine pretty much all day and it's the first day of the half term holiday here so think lots of people had a day out as we didn't see the normal amount of people with children that we would normally in a holiday week. Maybe we'll get that today!
Heard some sad news last night about an old friend of myself and hubby - he passed away on Sunday, scary thought as he is younger than hubby although he did have some health problems. It seems to have knocked hubby, as he hadn't seen him for ages then saw him not 2 weeks ago, and then we hear this last night, so sad for his family.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Woke up at 4 and couldn't get back to sleep, not really done much since I got up, must get myself moving soon!
Funny day at work yesterday, first I managed to get some work done - not sure how that happened - 2 of the learning assistants came in carrying a small boy at lunchtime, they had found him wandering just outside the school with no coat or shoes. We kept him entertained until the police and his mother arrived, turned out he was 2 and had let himself out whilst she was seeing to the baby. She didn't seem as upset as you would have thought, anyway the police escorted her home. A few hours later another member of staff was going home and found the wee boy out on his own again. Last we heard she was waiting for the police with another woman, all this by a very busy dual carriageway near to the school. I have been worried about him all night, I hope he is safe.
Anyway, not a lot going on today apart from a visit to the dentist after work, I have a crown that is just a tad wobbly so I'll get that looked at before it gets worse.
Hope you have a happy day, still cold and breezy here. Take care. XX0 -
Morning all,
Camelot what a day you had. Awful, truly awful. Reminds me of the time my Son wandered out of Nursery. He was 3 and was found in the road by a friend who collected his Son. Heads rolled that day but how the nursery teacher tried to squirm out of that was shocking. After threatening to get the police and newspapers involved she was moved to an infant teacher position (more suitable for her in my opinion as I thought she was a little harsh on the little ones). There was an angel looking after him that day I swear and I hope that same angel is looking after him now.
Hubby gone to work. Youngest is just leaving. He's a little later than normal as he's got his induction day for his nvq level 3 in electrical installations. Talking to him last night. He's got his whole life mapped out in front of him. He's even talking about buying his own house! Not quite yet though. Will be strange to have no children left in the nest. Even scarier the thought of just me, Hubby and no hounds.
Not much to do in the house today. I'm sure I can find something to do.
Onwards and forwards

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Omg CAMELOT you'd think after letting the little boy "escape" once and wander off his mum would be keeping an extra careful eye on him. Some folk are just not fit to have children. I hope the little chap is ok.
Well yesterday ended up a totally lazy day and, apart from making meals, I did nothing! Slothfulness set in with a vengeance and we both ended up watching rubbish on tv, sprawled on the sofas in front of the fire! This bitterly cold weather has a lot to answer for!
We are making an effort to go out today, for the run to Otley which never happened last Tuesday when Mr TA got up with the sicky bug. A browse of the many cs and the small market is on the cards, followed by a late Steak Day lunch in 'Spoons. Maybe I'll spot the silk poppies there somewhere!
ELONA I'm glad you were allowed home yesterday and could spend the night in your own bed. Hope all goes well today with the scan.
Have a good day all if you can and (HUGS) as always for the poorlies, sad and worried who want one. Take care all whatever you are up to xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning everyone, thanks for the thread nmlc, condolences for your friend x
Dry, bright but frosty here, we too had a lovely day weather wise yesterday and it was good to see some sun.
We are all up and at em this morning waiting for the wardrobe to be delivered, did a massive clean and clear of the spare room yesterday so the space is all ready. There are two bags ready for the charity shop and I hope to cull further, have a lot of 'office' clothes that I haven't worn for ages so time to let go as not sure I will ever go back into that kind of corporate environment.
Hope you had a comfortable night Elona.
Have a good day everyone, take care folks x0 -
Hi everyone
Thanks for all the good wishes and positive vibes.
I woke up early so loaded the dishwasher and washing machine.
Breakfast was scrambled egg on toast and will have a shower later once DD arrives so I am not alone in the house if I feel wobbly.
Hospital will phone to tell me the time of scan so will make sure I am ready to go. I spoke to dds on the phone last night to reassure them so they did not worry.
I am so glad I have plenty of food etc in the house and have done online shopping for dd's birthday at the end of the month and even more glad I future proofed the house so bathroom is only a few steps away as is the kitchen and I don't need to climb any stairs.
Camelot
That is so scary about the little boy - and for it to happen twice!!!
Hugs to all"This site is addictive!"

Condolences to your friend NMLC its awful when death starts taking ones friends .
camelot !!! thats seriously scary poor little chap and how frightening for the Mum.
Well Good Morning chums and its Valentines day which is always a bitter sweet one for me as today its 55 years since I got married.Where have those years flown to I wonder. So many things have happened and how life has changed from those far off carefree days of the early 1960s ,although there were worries back then what with the Cold war etc.
Prices have gone up beyond all imagination ,along with wages and expectations.
For all the worries about the NHS Healthcare, today is so different from then and so many illnesses which would have carried you off have been if not cured, then treated and survivable now.
I have a life style now, with gadgets I would never have dreamed of owning which are the norm now. Just sitting here at my computer typing to untold hundreds of people:):) whom I doubt I shall ever meet in RL:) phones the size of a pack of cigarettes that you can carry in your pocket
My DD phoned me last night from Trump Towers in New York, she was on her mobile and connected to their google wifi and it cost her nothing to talk to me from the other side of the atlantic.
I am still impressed by modern technology, but then I was gobsmacked when men walked on the moon:):) What modern day things still give you a kick do you think, that's the thought for today
it will be interesting to see what you all come up with.
Hope everyone has a good day and is warm and dry The sun is struggling to appear at the moment but its at least dry and bright
Cheers chums

Morning all
NMLC thanks for the thread.
Camelot, how terrifying.
I had the opposite happen to DD1 at playgroup, I arrived to find the staff in a state, two of them were out searching the streets, the others were inside trying to keep the other children calm. They had lost my daughter! Now I knew the set up well enough to know she hadn't got out, they were so very careful. I was sure she was inside the building somewhere. They explained that that had used the Big Room for some races so I went in there, they were convinced she couldn't be in there as they had searched repeatedly. I went to the old upright piano, moved the fabric backing and there she was fast asleep in the back of the piano!
There seems to be a problem with my blog, it says blog not found, register this blog, but if I try to register it, it takes me to my blog. I'm not sure what the problem is.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning everyone.
All is calm and quiet outside and the temperature is definitely up. I'm sure rain is in the air.
I only have to go into town for a couple of things and rooting in an old office for some old paperwork. There's also a bag of tshirts to go to the CS, a little more of getting rid of unwanted 'stuff'. There's a growing pile of papers which I'll take to work on Wednesday for shredding.
Elona - I hope all goes well today, so glad you heeded the advice.
TA - enjoy your trip. I've just been hearing on the radio about the three days of steam engines going to Skipton on the peppercorn line, not sure I've got that last bit right, perhaps it's pepperpot??

Happy Tuesday to all.0 -
Morning everyone,
I've noticed a huge difference in the morning lately. Lovely and bright just now with a slight fog/mist (can never remember the difference).
Yesterday after work I picked up flowers and a birthday card from my gran who turned 83. I was pleased to see a mantelpiece of cards and she said my uncle took her out for lunch. I then told her I wanted to take her our for a nice lunch at some point and she seemed happy - which makes me happy.
I've got some work to do tonight. I say work, it's watching the football from the weekend to see who had adverts. Tough work. Hope to find time to make a flourless coconut cake.
nmlc - sorry to hear the sad news. Hope you and DH are doing ok.
camelot - Wow! How can someone be so....careless?
Jackie - I loved that post, thank you for sharing.0 -
Good morning everyone one, thanks to nmlc for starting the thread and hugs to those who need them.
My friend's daughter had real problems with an escaping toddler. He had a real wanderlust and the stealth of a ninja and she was at her wits end! Having taken good precautions re securing doors etc. she didn't expect him to very early one morning manage to clamber over a stair gate, get into the utility room, climb on top of the washing machine and open and squeeze out of a tiny window. He was found some streets away in his PJs before she even knew he was gone. She was distraught and ended up spending lots of money getting all the windows and doors fitted with trigger alarms. A few years later the lad was diagnosed as being fairly far along the autistic spectrum and although more restrained now he still has the tendency to bolt off at times.
A bright and sunny day here and although chilly definitely a tad warmer than it's been. Will get my wheels out later and go for a trundle to take advantage of the dry weather.
I'm going to make a pot of lentil and bacon soup and also some dhal for tonight so I'll not be short on fibre this week! Apart from that a quiet day with no doubt a snooze this afternoon......
Hope everyone has a good day x0
