Orange mobile package - hard to beat!

Options
I bet you can't beat this mobile phone package!

I am on the "Orange Value Promise" (equivalent to the Virgin tariff at the time) since I joined Orange mobile about 20 years ago.

I currently pay £3.16 a month plus 65p VAT = £3.88
Breakdown: 50 mins of calls = £2.55
100 mins of data = 4.17 for 50 mins of that, (the other 50 mins is free)
unlimited any time texts = £4.25.
Minus discount of £8.24 as a loyal long term customer.

I actually don't need the data, but if I cancel that part of my package I will end up paying MINUS 29pence a month!

I would be interested in your reaction.

Well you can get deals for £5 these days.

    But stick with it
  • I had already forgotten the days when the internet was charged by the minute. That was even before 3g became the standard. On o2 it was wap/gprs/edge internet.
It much depends on your usage. Me personally i make less than 100 minutes and texts a month but spend well over 15gb of data.
A package like your would not suit many people. But again it depends what you want it for.

    I don't think it's that good a deal.
Eg. iD Mobile do 250 minutes, 5000 texts and 250Megabytes of 4Gdata for £4.

Three pay as you go would give you 50 minutes and 119 text messages for £3.88

I suppose a lot of folks reaction would be 'first time poster - is he a spammer?' ;)

Anyway, I'm intrigued to know how you get discount on OVP (Virgin). We've had three for about 15/20 years and never had any 'loyal long term' discount.

    .
I don't think you'll be able to modify anything on an OVP these days without converting it to an EE deal or PrePay.

I also have my original Orange number on an OVP tariff from the old days, and carry the SIM with me (roaming enabled) as a backup but otherwise never use. Any calls in UK will cost 35p I think but the monthly rolling tariff is £0, so it costs me nothing to just keep it going.

The OP certainly isn't describing the OVP EQ Virgin tariff. 35 p/min since a few years ago, as per the above post, and data not enabled let alone included.

I haven't used mine for a while, but as I've just rejoined EE home broadband I can use it to call CS if necessary, or at least to receive their texts about when the transfer is happening. Unfortunately the bonus 5 GB of mobile data in the deal doesn't apply on this SIM.

It would make sense to use up some of the few quid credit left on it, maybe roaming backup as per eDicky's post, but I recently used O2 for that.
  • They sell data in "minutes" ?
The instructions on the box said 'Requires Windows 7 or better'. So I installed LINUX :D:D

Back in the days of 2G 'WAP' (Web Access Protocol..?) - I never bought any, don't think there was much demand...

Also I don't think it was available with Orange OVP EQ Virgin tariffs.

Correct, Orange ovp virgin was 35ppm for the 1st 5 mins, then 5ppm after that, can't recall text cost's though 15p is in the back of my mind, and free voicemail.

Doesn't sound that brilliant to be honest.

Depending on how many texts you use, and whether you're happy with 1 month contracts or payg bundles, you can either pay less with Tello or get much much more for an extra 12p
