Balance transfer from a closed credit card account?

Hi - I have around £9.5k debt on a credit card provided by Halifax. Last year they changed the way in which they charge interest (moving from paying interest + £5 to interest + 1% of total debt - apparently to bring them in line with other card providers) which resulted in me paying an extra c£100 a month, which I couldn't afford. They advised me that if I wanted to revert to the previous interest rate calculation, I could do so if I closed my account and cut up my card. I therefore agreed as I couldn't afford to do otherwise. However, in trying recently to arrange a balance transfer from that account to a 0% interest rate card (which I've been accepted for and have in place), I now realise that I of course don't have the card to the account I want to transfer from because I was told to cut it up. I've spoken to Halifax and they tell me there's nothing they can do to help as they wouldn't have a copy of my CVV number on file which I would need to make the transfer (though they are going to check whether anyone in their 'back office' might have this, but they didn't hold out much hope). This is the biggest debt that I have, and I am paying about £140 a month in interest alone even at the previous rate. It hadn't even occurred to me when asked to cut up my card that this would be an outcome of doing so, and now I am stuck. My 0% balance card is set at that rate for over 3 years, so would allow me to pay back this enormous debt far more quickly and within my means. I prefer not to get a loan when I have the option of a 0% balance transfer. But is there anything I can do? A colleague, who is financially savvy, feels Halifax have 'trapped' me and there should be more they can do to help - but perhaps this isn't the case? Any advice please?

Do you even need the CVV numbers to do a balance transfer? As far as I know you just need the long card number.
Edit: I just did a test for a transfer from Barclaycard and all you need is the long card number.
As zx said above, if all else fails, apply for a money transfer card and just use the cash once it's in your account to clear the debt:

I did a BT recently and they needed the card details. Have you checked your statements to see if the card number is on there? Failing this, you can transfer the balance from the new card into your bank account, and transfer this over to clear the old card.0

You won't need your CVV number.
Many balance transfer simply require the long card number (which you may well be able to retrieve from your statement). Some places also require expiry and/or start dates.
I've never, ever seen a balance transfer require a CVV0 -
I have just done 2 BTs and no CVV required, just long card number.0

Have never given ccv number for balance transfer.
Perhaps if you were to say who the 0% card is with somebody who has one of their cards could confirm if they have any unusual requirements in this respect.
I assume you still know or can find out the card number.
If you were in a position to get a 0% card why were you been paying interest in the first place and why did you not apply for the 0% card when you were notified of the change in interest rates?0
