GB Online February 18

  • I received an email from GB Energy (COOP Energy) yesterday saying that my Ruby 2017 Tariff is to terminate.
Their offer was to do one of two things,do nothing and go onto a very expensive tariff or to change onto the GB Online Exclusive tariff.Obviously the first was not an option. The second there was no details about the unit charge ,standing order or exit fee,but that was what they wanted me to do.
I had a good search on the internet but could not find much about the Online Exclusive tariff, but from the figures provided by them for my estimated bill and what little I could find from the internet I came to these conclusions.
The standing charge from my Ruby tariff to the O.E tariff would double, the unit rate that I could calculate using some justifiable assumptions was not very competitive at all,no wonder the vendor did not give this information in the raw form.
The exit fee was also hidden in the small print, there was no exit fee for the Ruby tariff, but the OE tariff has two lots of £30,the penny dropped as to why the COOP had taken over th GB Energy accounts.
The only reason that I can see why the Coop took on GB Energy accounts was to gain more customers, if they(the customers) are daft enough to swap onto the OE tariff and find it expensive them it will cost them to get out.
Well its swappy time for me,I somehow doubt whether I will be able to find a deal as good as the Ruby tariff, but I would like to say that I liked GB Energy and it was a shame to see them fail due to bad creditors.

What makes you think that GBEnergy failed due to 'bad creditors'? I would have thought that the failure was due solely to poor business decisions.

This article just about sums up what most informed market overseers have concluded about GBEnergy's failure:

OP - you might like to edit this to take out your phone number.

What you will never know is what tariff GB Energy would be offering to replace Ruby 17.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

    Snap!
And using their calculation of my Estimated Annual Usage from my latest bill I am also unable to agree the annual cost they claim for the do-nothing option for which they do state the unit rate. The so-called 'GB Online Exclusive May 2018 Elec' option which shows an apparent "saving" over their do-nothing option has no unit rates shown anywhere that I can find. Is this legal?
I'm certainly not signing up for an unquoted tariff so it's goodbye GB Energy, it was nice while it lasted!

GB energy offered to swap me to a cheaper tariff before they went down. When I checked it was more expensive, incompetent or liars?

Unbelievably GB Energy never allowed people to make payments online. I had to email them to ask how to pay extra and they told me to ring them. I gave up after a few minutes
