  • Thank you all so much! Tiny tiny baby steps, but this feels like real progress.

I'm not overpaying nearly as frantically as last month (only about £50 in overpayments in total so far this month), as I'm determined not to overpay and then have to put birthday things on the CC (two of my children have birthdays this month), but hopefully this means that in April we'll be able to get back into significant overpayments, especially as a couple of outgoings (nursery, council tax) should drop a bit.

  • Week 4: Day 6

Right, back on the positivity wagon today. Need to stop feeling sorry for myself because I have work to do. Work means money, one way or another! I'm a little less busy for the next couple of days, purely because DH is taking the children away for the weekend after school today, so once they're gone I have fewer bodies to worry about!.

My Great Ham Experiment this week was a success - rather than buying 2 hugely expensive packets of manky reformed mechanically recovered ham for some ridiculous sum, I bought a gammon joint for £6, cooked it and sliced it up. So far it's done one ham, egg and chips dinner for the five of us, one spaghetti carbonara type meal for the five of us, and the remainder (still about 15% of it left) is going to go into some kind of pasty filling for the children and DH's car journey this evening. Ham win!

    To do today:
    1. Make bread
    2. Bake for clients tomorrow.
    3. make pasties and put together a picnic dinner for DH and the children to eat in the car so they don't have to stop at a services.
    4. clean house for clients tomorrow.
    5. Post on social media for work.
    6. Work on smaller business for a couple of hours.
    7. Plan out weekend working for maximum efficiency while DH and children are away.
    8. Knit socks
    9. Mend fancy dress costumes so they can go away into the cupboard ready for the next dressing up day at school (so many of these at the kids' school, we have ended up with quite a costume collection!).
    10. Order essential oils so I can make more candles

    To do this week:
    1. Look into changing bank accounts and decide whether we want the hassle (I rather like having all our accounts available under one login, not sure I want to open up three new accounts).
    2. Make the statement payment to the barclaycard (it will come out by DD if I don't pay it manually, but I like to get everything lined up as early as possible so it makes my YNAB look prettier). Done!
    3. List old unloved handbag on eb@y.
    4. Order birthday presents for child 2 and child 3.
    5. Plan birthday parties so anything needed can be ordered in.
    6. Declutter one room - I feel like the clutter in the house is bothering me again, it's been building up over the past few weeks.Done! Going to attempt to get the kids' room done too by the end of the week.
    7. Take lots of photos for social media at an event I'm going to on Thursday. Done!
Trying to figure out a whole new life. Trying to figure out a whole new budget.

Good idea to avoid the services with your picnic ! I hate how expensive they make the coffee there or at the airport. It's nuts!

Love ham cooked that way. Always do a Christmas ham.

DH secretly loves stopping at services, so I have to make it basically impossible by over-providing on the picnic front to such an extent that there is literally nothing he needs.

I always do a ham at Christmas, but somehow it has literally never occurred to me to do it at other times of year. :o
